Ok, I know the style of vent (DTM used to run it, SuperGT still does). A couple of questions;

First, are you going to be running shortened doors?
Second, how much underbody aero are you planning on running?

Ok, cool, now I know what you’re looking for. The way the arch has been flared at the back is the way I would vent the arches, but would add a couple of vanes inside to flick the air up (the reason will be seen in a moment).

As for the side skirts, nice and deep, allowing for a tunnel section underneath, but that cutout isn’t what I’d do. Without a vortex generator it looks like the air is just going to spill underneath the floor and spoil the flow into the rear diffuser. Also looks like it’s just shunting air out to the side which increases drag.

I still love it, but this car is really testing my patience.

Took the car out of the city today for a meeting, and it's giving me more problems. I noticed on my way out of town that when I was on partial throttle just moving in traffic, the car was juddering like it wasn't getting a consistent supply of fuel to the engine. When I looked at the rev counter, it was definitely going up and down, and when I was reversing and just doing it on the clutch (no throttle) it stalled. If I'm revving hard, there's no hesitation at all, but when it's back on partial throttle, it's shuddering.

A while back I mentioned that I had some fuel soaking into the foam of my engine acoustic cover. I checked it yesterday and there was definitely more of a patch than before, so I'm thinking it could be my fuel hoses have degraded to the point there's no consistent supply or maybe there's air getting in. It can't do any harm to change them, given I've got some fuel line from Halfords. It's the 8mm stuff, right?

I wouldn't have found this next one out if my girlfriend hadn't felt a bit car sick and opened her window, but I can hear a really loud hissing sound when I'm on boost - but there's no noticeable drop in power like I had before the intercooler boost pipe was changed. It doesn't seem to be doing anything other than just making a loud noise, but I don't want to find out something catastrophic is going on that I could have fixed easily.

I'm going to open the bonnet tomorrow and do some basic checks like making sure the air box is all together properly, as well as checking the intake pipe to make sure it's seated properly, given I took it all out when I was trying to get the intake manifold out.

Hopefully it's something simple, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know. Don't forget as well that this is only happening since I took it to a garage on Friday, where they replaced the boost pipe, so at the same time, I don't want to do anything where they're going to tell me that because I've touched it, they won't repair it - even if it's something to do with what they've done.

Mate they’ve probably missed tightening a small pipe. The fuel lines I believe are 8mm, I need to do mine.

Probably the case, but that does mean getting under the car and taking off some of the undertray to take a look - which is more work than I have the energy for at the moment.

Looking up the juddering issue, it could also be that my fuel filter is on the way out, given I haven't changed that for what feels like 2 1/2 years but I'll probably find out is longer...

I'll get outside tomorrow and change as much of the fuel hose as I can. The hoses that seem to be leaking are the ones attached to the tandem pump, so I'm hoping I don't need to bleed anything afterwards or do anything other than just turn the ignition a few times to prime it.

Right now I do kind of feel like I'm just going to be changing things just in case they work, but at least the things I'm going to be changing are things that could probably do with changing after 165k miles.

I think you've been needing to change your fuel hoses for as long as I have - which is both good going and appalling in equal measure. Get to it, you slacker!

Went to the garage yesterday and they took a quick look at the car and booked me in for Friday, so I've held off doing the fuel hoses until they've been able to do their thing to make sure there aren't any conflicts with me doing my own work in the meantime.

When the fuel filter arrives, I'll fill it with Forte injector cleaner and run it through for a few minutes. It was funny - I mentioned it to the guy at the garage and was half expecting him to tell me not to, but instead he said they do it on all their services.

Asked me as well what I used to clean the turbo. 'Was it Mr Muscle?' I was expecting him to tell me I was a twat for doing that, but instead he was like 'works, doesn't it? I used it on mine' which was a nice surprise.

That might be the squeak - I didn't spray the turbo vane actuator with lube after cleaning the turbo, so given it only squeaks after I'm hard on the throttle, I'll at least give it a try.

Anyone who's changed the fuel hoses on their TDI, has anyone had any issues with this bit?

I've only got about two 10cm bits of hose that need replacing, with no real bends or anything, but I'm conscious that old plastic pieces might break, so it'd be good to know what it is and whether it's easy to replace it it breaks.

Any tips on getting the hose off without breaking the plastic would be awesome too.

Fingers crossed that when the fuel side of things is sorted, I won't get any more grey smoke out the back when I'm on the throttle. That's a new thing since the boost pipe got changed.

Is that not a water hose and for the fuel pipes your replacing why not cut down one side with a blade

It's been a voyage of discovery, that's for sure. One of the hoses I thought I'd need to change is actually a coolant hose and I don't have any problems with that side of things, so that's being left alone.

This should give a better idea - I've circled the plastic part that the fuel hose is connected to - it's the return line:

And a wider angle:

The two bits I've circled are where they seem to be leaking from. There's a patch on the engine cover that smells of diesel that's got bigger over the past six months and it's one of the two, so I may as well replace both. I'm changing the engine cover foam too, given that the old foam is really thick and may have been putting pressure on the lines there - they're leaving an imprint on the foam.

Looking closer at the hoses around the fuel filter, they're perishing and could probably do with replacing too. Meh.

Genius idea on slitting the hose though - thank you. I'm guessing that's why your car runs well and mine is, well...

Replaced that top hose a while ago and it’s not a separate part you have to buy that pump thing it’s connected too, i bought separate gates fuel hose and cut to length

Amazing what cif oven cleaner does, mad never used it before, manifold don’t look all that bad as well been a while I took egr off as well, glad I removed egr as well as I seen a breather pipe wearing though or heat, used self amalgamating tape and insulation tape for good measure lol clipped the thing back on as well.

I've seen on a couple of other sites that if you want OEM, they only sell it as a complete set. I've got some Halfords fuel hose though and I'm sure I can get it to work - the Halfords one you can put a 95° bend in it and it won't kink, but I've seen some people make a loop with it instead.

That turbo actuator vacuum line is a nightmare if you don't clip it back in place. When I did my cambelt, the guy who was helping me didn't put it back, and it ended up sitting against the EGR, which basically melted it through. The line itself isn't that hard to change, but it's easier to do from under the car, which of course means you need to jack it up and all the other nonsense that comes with that.

yea when i cut that pipe it had tobe bang on as it would kink, its been on since 2012 but it is the second pipe i did as the hose clips nipped the hose and leaked again that's why i used jubilee clips, the fuel hose is handy to have just in case though, might be worth looking into how to bend the pipe i did have an idea to use a heat gun to warm and set angles of pipe using welding rods to hold in place but never tried it.

the wear was nearly though but that tape i used should be ok also clipped underneath as well now, i traced it back but like you say you'd have to jack car up but was doing egr and oil change ect, no way the pipe fell off just wasn't clipped back in something simple like that would cause a right headache to fault find glad i seen it
