Formentor System Errors

My Formentor again failed to start the engine yesterday (right on the forecourt after filling a full tank). Had the same set of assist system unavailable faults flash at me including the “drive system error - contact workshop” one.

I tried cycling the ignition several times, then locking and unlocking and trying again - no luck. So I walked back into the station shop to let the staff know I was stuck and would call recovery. Walked back to the car, tried one more time and it started immediately!

So this is the third time it’s now happened, the previous two times my vehicle was recovered by SEAT assist and I had the saga with SMC Aldershot unable to find the cause or reproduce the fault, and Cupra technical saying there’s nothing they can do. They told the garage to reset faults and see if it happens again - well it finally has now!

So the fault information will be stored, it’s whether they are going to take it any more seriously on the THIRD occasion. I resigned myself last time to giving them three strikes policy before I kick off and reject the car (through the leasing company, for added complication) if nothing gets resolved. After driving the car home I’ve left it parked up and emailed my contact at SMC, nothing will happen until Monday now but I’ll see what their response is this time...

These cars are going to be great once all you peeps have finished Beta Testing them 😀
Fair shout to you all for sticking with it and having more patience than me; by now I think I'd be slamming the keys back down on the salesman's desk and starting a frank and meaningful discussion about a refund.
I’ve just been reading this thread and thought exactly the same.
Too much tech that’s just not needed.
I can drive in a straight line and park up without hitting anything thanks.

Nooooooooooooo! What have the garage come up with?
Mine has behaved (well almost) since I got it back. I have noticed on CCTV at night that it "flashes" internally when its locked and the keys are tucked up in their Faraday pouches, which give me anxiety. I sent the garage a video and they don't seem to have any idea why!

The keys for the Formentor are passive so when they are immobile do not emit any signals so in essence a faraday pouch isn’t really rewired (but good if you need the extra security).

Lots of issues software wise with these cars that dealers do not know about and how to deal with them. I recommend keeping a log of all issues you come across.

Can you elaborate on the “flashes internally” statement above? I’m not sure what that means? Cheers👍🏼

Nothing yet, it’s booked in for 26th because that’s the earliest availability of a courtesy car...
It’s a lot better when the thing doesn’t start at all and SEAT assist provide hire!

They mentioned that if it happens again, press the brake pedal very hard as if it were being launched because the garage boss had an issue with his Formentor where it wouldn’t start, and apparently flooring the brake pedal triggered the faulty brake sensor and allowed it to start (they couldn’t confirm whether it was exactly the same scenario with all the assist faults being flagged beforehand).

Standard, I think most vw group cars have a small led that flashes to show alarmed 'armed'. My previous Golf R had the same as in the Formentor, nothing to worry about 👍

It’s not the little alarm led light, its the whole internal dash light that randomly comes on then goes off!

My keyless was temperamental again, randomly not working at supermarket, when I needed it. Worked ok 10 minutes earlier and 10 minutes later at home.

It got me thinking about preferential early termination of PCH with VWFS. Not sure if they still offer it. One of the conditions was to get another VAG car financed by them. Went on Autotrader and couldn't find any car I would want to swap to. Used car prices are too high and I don't want anything new.

Got two quotes for trade in price for 21 plate VZ2 model with 3200 miles on a clock and they came around £36-36.5K

Hello,

Just received my new V2 1.5 today and it’s a lovely car but I have had some issues with it,

Firstly, how do I get the keys to link with individual users, I can’t seem to get them to link to each of the accounts.

Also, with one of the accounts the radio turns off as soon as I turn off the ignition, but with the other account the radio stays on until I walk away from car! Any ideas?

The car also seems to struggle switching between users if I do it manually (as the keys won’t do it)
A loud popping sound also seems to come from behind the dash or speakers every now and then

Very frustrating and I’d appreciate if anyone had some suggestions

Think VWFS charge 55% of remaining payments to terminate under normal conditions.

What is/were their “preferential” terms?

You get settlement quote and dealer takes your car as part exchange and settles the value of the car. In current times, it's not bad deal.

But finding another VAG through franchised dealer is a problem

------------------
I requested quote from VWFS and will start looking for dealer approved used car.

An update to my engine failing to start saga:

Formentor went into SMC Aldershot last Monday, they then took it to the Woking branch that day (they seem to be Cupra specific technicians there, not that I think it’s relevant to my issue).

I didn’t hear anything from them over the next few days but on Thursday was informed that they could see the faults and diagnosed the culprit as the Body Control Module (BCM). Funny that, it’s the exact part they suspected first time around, but couldn’t produce enough evidence to submit a warranty claim to SEAT…. Anyway, this was replaced on Friday and the keys were re-coded as they appear to be tied to this module.

I received the car back on Friday evening, but didn’t receive any formal information outlining the work they carried out - apparently that will come in about a week’s time once they’ve processed the warranty claims with SEAT.

Anyway, time will tell whether the BCM replacement has really solved the problem!

On top of that, they claimed to have updated the infotainment software, yet I see that the version is still 1790 and not 1803. Is there any other aspect they might have updated, or has nothing in fact been done?
