Yeah I didn’t believe a word of it.
Having been on the Octavia mk4 forums a lot in that last couple of months and now reading these pages, I genuinely believe that the answers are still unknown to some of these issues. Not excusing the dealers at all, but it seems that even back at the HQ’s of these brands, they still don’t have absolute fixes, which beggars belief in this day and age.
Hope everyone gets some resolution though and soon, as it must be horrendous taking delivery of a nice new car and then having all these issues.
saying that, you guys should take a look at some of the catastrophic infotainment failures on the Skoda site, it’s truly woeful.

I guess comfort can be taken from that. I for one have had no where near the types of issues as other members of our tribe so I will count my blessings ( for now) ha.

Yeah it is very frustrating as I found out with my now rejected and returned Golf 8.

Problem is where do you go next? VAG is sharing the same software with all their cars.

I am waiting on my V2 in September and I am hoping it will be ok as despite everything I loved the Golf and the way it drove. I was also told silly things like the rain affecting the sensors...yeah..me too.

I too agree that they don't know where these issues are coming from.

Maybe we should switch to Japanese/Korean brands...at least they do electronics well and their quality has been improving lots recently.

Well, you can go to competition, after spending days on their forums to see if there are any huge issues with new cars or buy outgoing model that doesn't have so much tech or issues have been fixed.

Well that is exactly what we did...we skipped a generation...or two...and we picked up a '17 Scirocco for one of the cars and the Formentor will be the family car replacing the '18 Civic which has been faultless.

Might be an idea to pay off the PCP and run the civic for a little longer. Only has 26,000 miles on it and for a diesel...it just about woke up!!

My Formentor has failed again (this time at work) with the exact same fault - lots of faults and engine doesn’t start. Only drove it twice since picking it up on Yesterday.

SEAT roadside assistance sent out the AA and he could see all these diagnostic gateway errors again so quickly arranged recovery. Despite requesting an equivalent vehicle the best Enterprise can provide (apparently) is a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV... maybe a slight upgrade from SEAT Tarraco? We’ll see...

In hindsight I think outgoing model with less tech is the best option.
This car has too much tech, can’t process it all and is actually a worse car for having it.
Even if / when it’s all working it takes away some of the enjoyment from driving the thing and many of these aids are things you don’t want / need.

That sounds dangerous man. Hope they fix it properly this time.

Somewhat annoyingly, it actually started as it was about to be towed onto the truck! Nonetheless they’re recovering it back to the SEAT workshop and at least they have witnessed the fault before so can’t claim it didn’t happen!

Amazing, my camera isn’t working again despite being “fixed” yesterday.
Anyone want to buy a VZ Edition?
£38k, 1300 miles......

The Mrs had one of the first 1.5 Ateca’s which we had issues with pretty much from day 1. The bloody thing used to conk out for no reason whatsoever. We ended up rejecting it and replacing it with a 2.0 4drive and to be fair, that’s been no problem whatsoever, neither was my 290 until the week before it was due to go back the coolant reservoir decided to go pop, a common problem.
The Ateca we rejected was suffering from a software issue by all accounts and that wasn’t due a fix for about 4 months from the date of purchase so there was no way I was letting her drive it with the sprog as the thing was dangerous. Seemed to affect most of the vw group vehicles with that new 1.5 engine. As it goes it was a blessing in disguise as in the real world (not a test drive) i found it rather gutless and actually less economical than the 2.0 so glad it went back.
It’s bloody annoying that they let cars out with these issues and I bet they’re well aware they exist, they certainly knew about the issues we were having, we were lucky getting shot in fairness. “Luckily” the sales manager of our dealer had the same problem with his so couldn’t have been more helpful hence they have had our business since then (SMC Aldershot and Cupra Woking), nice bunch they are.
Fingers crossed you guys with issues get them resolved sooner rather than later as I suspect it takes the shine off the ownership experience and they’re not exactly cheap are they?
I think the list price of mine was around £45k which is not inconsiderable!!
If mine breaks then it’s straight back, no arguments. I’m fingers crossed it’ll be ok as I honestly don’t know what what I’d replace it with if I had to. There’s not a lot out there that compares that’s not a vw group car.

Seems the early cars, Golfs, Octavia First Editions, Formentor Editions all seem to have been released with significant software glitches. Cars built after seem to be carrying slightly less issues with the most recent cars being the more reliable. But absolutely VAG are having an absolute nightmare right now. Are we seeing the fallout from the diesel gate law suits and fines imposed, with cost cutting on product development / testing? You can only speculate, but the problem cars are tangible proof that all is not as it should have been.

SMC SEAT Aldershot is where my Formentor has gone back to for repair attempt #2. To be fair they have been very friendly, apologetic (they didn’t even sell the vehicle), and appear very keen to actually solve the problem.

I just hope they are able to gather enough diagnostic information to find the root cause since the vehicle started again without issue earlier... last time they seemed convinced they had fixed a faulty connection but might well have been a red herring, or there are several dodgy connections causing the intermittent fault...

Don’t let them wash it. Their valet blokes leave a lot to be desired. Seriously.
Cant fault them otherwise.

Hope it gets sorted for you. The biggest issue is that electrical issues are much harder to diagnose than mechanical. So like you say could be red herrings thrown in, especially as the fault appears intermittent. But fingers crossed they route out the cause and can resolve it for you. 👍🏼👍🏼

So following my vehicle being recovered on Thursday to SMC Aldershot, they were able to repeatedly stop and restart the engine with no faults.

They contacted the upper echelons of Cupra/SEAT who requested that they send over all diagnostics and information for their review before trying anything that might muddy the waters.

This is clearly of great concern so hopefully gets prioritised - although I’m cynical that they will reach a resolution quickly... for the time being, I’m stuck with the Mitsubishi PHEV which in all fairness isn’t a bad vehicle, although clearly down on power and lacking in any driver involvement!
