I dont car can be returned irrespective of whether its on fiance.
It can. It’s more straight forward in the first 30 days, but you can do it up to the first 6 months I believe if you give the manufacturer one opportunity to fix it and they don’t. I’m going to give them a second chance to do so.
There will be a negotiation on price but in a quick read of t’internet they would be compelled to purchase the car from me if they fail to repair the issue. Going to look more into it.

I didnt knew about this. Found this

Rejecting a car after the 30-day period

Let’s face it; the chances of faults rearing their head within the first 30 days of owning a new car would be far too convenient. So what happens when problems arise after the first 30 days of owning a new car?

Your rights to a full refund are lost. Instead, for cars between one and six months old, the dealer must be given one chance to repair the car or offer a replacement.

Should the former fail to get to the root of the problem, or the latter isn’t to the customer’s satisfaction, then the dealer must offer a partial refund.

Typically, the refund will be a value that’s reflective of the car’s age and condition. Unfortunately, this inevitably means you stand to lose money: even two-month old cars can depreciate substantially from their original showroom prices.

Hey all.

Just started reading this forum as I am looking to replace my Golf 8.

I really love the look of the Formentor but I just rejected the golf for the same set of issues you are seeing.

I was on VW Finance and although it took a bit of chasing the dealership...I got all my deposit plus a little bit more for my part exchange at the time...that was after 4 months.

However I had a battery low charge issue literally the day I drove it home and I was very very careful to keep a dated log with pictures etc.

I think that helped.

I am convinced a lot of these issues wil be sorted eventually but I hate spending time in the garage!!! My Golf in 4 months of ownership spend a month in the garage. My theory is electrics. Normally I would have driven it more but with lockdown I have barely been doing 5 miles a day. Mine being the eTSI..and both batteries charging off each other, I believe may have had something to do with it.

Anyway...the dealer eventually refunded everything. Interestingly, speaking to the senior sales manager when inspecting the car...he finally admitted they had a number of rejections already. But he did caveat it with saying statistically speaking, they had a similar number of issues with the previous Golf...just not all at the beginning!!

It's a real shame as I wanted to pick one up later in the year on lease as some of the offers are pretty good but now I am not so sure. I am 15miles away from the dealership so not an easy trek for me.

May just settle for a Hyundai Tucson or a CRV instead!!!

I'm not sure I would get another new VAG, after rejecting Golf.

My Formentor decided I don't need Air Con and heating and switched off everything after short stop on services. I noticed it only when I was back on motorway, so couldn't stop to "reboot" the car to see if all functions are back. It worked next time in couple of hours. It must be random, before it never happened before or after. But it confirms why car should have physical buttons and normal AC, not screen to manage it.

Hi Agnes...I know what you mean but I still maintain the golf was one of the cleverest cars and gearboxes I have driven.

The software is just a waiting game. It never stopped working. I have faith that eventually they will sort it out. I even got a call proactively from the dealership..after I handed it back...to ask me.to bring the car in as a warning light popped up! So there is hope.

I only rejected it as in my case I was getting some battery faults which worried me a bit....getting a 12v warning halfway an 80mile journey is a bit concerning. If it was just infotainment...I would have kept it.

But I know what you mean about any new VAG in this generation.

On the fuel consumption thread yesterday you persuaded me to go for the VZ2...please don't stop now!!

I will wait till later in the summer for the new lease prices to come in as my other car has a year to go on PCP so not in a hurry.

Or I can just give up and go for the new Tucson in hybrid guise as it is the same lease price for the top Ultimate with tech pack option... but no where near as exciting.

Well, mpg looked good, but 2 mile trip to car wash was 15mpg and 7 mile trip to shop 25mpg. You don't spend your life driving through motorway roadworks, unless you live near M4 or M6 right now ;-)

If you wait couple of months, software issues should be worked out and some updates applied. Also, there will be more cars on the market and it might be even cheaper to buy one.

I doubt it a PCP on a £40k car will work out cheaper than a lease unless you are putting in a massive deposit.

I am keen to move away from.PCP as despite buying the sensible choices with large deposits..somehow still in negative equity ( honda civic ex '18 in diesel with £5k down and currently at 26K miles)! and considering I change my cars every 3 -4 years, I will never own it. However the cars I usually like are normally expensive and require large deposits on PCP which is hard to justify some times.

Or I can just settle for the V2 and be done with it. Just not sure on the comfort aspect on that suspension.

Hence the look in at the new Tucson....more practical, similar price and seriously lots of kit...but more of a bus than a fun car.

A Cupra UK customer services manager has given me a call back and my car is booked back in to be checked over (camera / climate / ACC / lane assist issues on the list so far).
Unfortunately the dealer has no courtesy car until the 12th May, so it’s a waiting game until then.
Hopefully the car behaves itself between now and then, although I’m not driving it much at the moment.

Received my Formentor VZ2 last Friday and I’ve had several software issues already:

- Infotainment system reset; I’m not sure what happens here but the whole screen goes black and restarts, resetting climate controls and other settings. It also deactivates Cupra Connect services each time! This has happened twice so far.
- CarPlay screen goes horribly pixelated, distorted and purple, and calls break up is as if reception is poor, however switching to a vehicle menu and back to CarPlay restores this, until the next time...
- Navigating vehicle menus is laggy to various degrees, but specifically CarPlay which is extremely slow to respond to touch inputs (varies, maybe 1-5 seconds).
- wireless charging iPhone 12 sometimes just stops.
- Some vehicle menus regularly say “function not available” for several seconds with a loading indicator - bizarre...
- Whole infotainment screen unavailable (completely off) until power off, lock, unlock cycle... happened once so far.
- ACC Travel Assist is actually super impressive after using it for over 100 miles on the M1, however it occasionally slows down seemingly coinciding with cars overtaking on either side. Also several times it displayed 110 as the speed limit...
- I know it’s been mentioned several times but the non-backlit climate controls are by far and out the most absurd omission from the vehicle, it beggars belief that such design flaw (with an incredibly simple and cheap solution) wasn’t noticed/resolved during presumably thousands of hours of testing?

Anyone else have an issue with the randomness of internet radio? Works fine one day, then won't play anything, won't list stations... Then randomly it starts working again.

Always seems to work OK if you connect the car to WiFi though!

Update on this - due to the fact my car isn’t being looked at until 12th May, Cupra Customer Services have closed my case and I’ve to get back in touch if I still have an issue after my appointment.
Fairly terrible customer service right there.

I told them on the phone that wasn’t acceptable and that the case should be left open until the issues are resolved, but they declined. I also told them that if the problem wasn’t resolved then the next thing they would receive is a letter confirming my requirement to reject the car and have Cupra UK make me an offer to buy the car from me.
They either didn’t understand or didn’t care.

Another example of what is a fairly terrible experience so far with this brand.

You are not alone @CupraCraig

I had similar experiences before I gave up and rejected my Golf eTSi. Just today I received the refund of the Service Plan and got all my deposit back and finance settled.

I am hoping that by the time my Formentor arrives in September/October will be well into the new model year and they would have had some time to sort these out.

As I said elsewhere here...just keep a dated log/document/Google Doc or something with pictures on your phone as that is what helped me as I rejected the car after 4 months but I was able to prove issues all the way from day 1.

Good luck and do keep us posted.

( Maybe I am a masochist for buying the same platform again but I did love driving it!)

I'm not sure if the owner is here. It was 70 plate VZ Edition collected in January. Below is quote of the post:

"blank unusable screen,
heated seats turn off (still happens),
cameras are crap and 90% of the time don’t work (still the same),
seatbelt warning lights when I’m in the car alone and have my belt on,
car goes into limp mode randomly but mainly when accelerating hard (no fix to this issue just shows it’s happened on the computer), just before it changes gear at speed it’s not dsg smooth it feels like the car has a choke engaged and stutters before changing.
Few other little intermittent faults.
The big one for me is the limp mode and hesitation on gear changes, the other stuff I could live with if I knew it would get fixed"

My car is from the same lot as Alec's one. I'm on that group too (you quoted his response to my question haha).
I had only a subset of the issues he was facing with the car, and they all got sorted after the recall software updates carried over by my dealership.

I wouldn't rule out returning the car if facing so many issues without support from my dealer like some people are, but apparently the 2021 version is doing OK so far.
I had one with me for a couple of days while my car was being fixed and I can guarantee that:
- lane assists is miles better than 2020 version
- reverse camera is not a 640p camera like 2020 version, you can actually see stuff and even change camera mode (fish eye/non-fish eye)
- Infotainment responsiveness is also improved

If you're coming from a Golf R MK8 you should expect same trim level and same performance from this car. The only difference is: The Formentor looks better hahah

Alec's car must have had more faults than average car with system errors. I also read Polish group and there are couple of people with very unlucky cars, however rejecting car in Poland is almost impossible, so they go back and forth to the dealer. Someone collected brand new car and had issues straight away with DSG box and electronics. Someone else bought car as a gift for a wife, but already sold it after being fed up with problems and got Mercedes GLB 35.

I'm sure there are some horror stories on German group and in other countries.
