How many ways of turning a bolt are there?
Hex, Bi hex, Allen, Torx male, torx female, XKN (triple square), torx female with the stupid peg in the middle
(probably the ones on your gearbox),
are there any any more of the blasted things?

All done?
I am bloody knackered.

That actuator gets really painful on your fingers after a while, but I was definitely getting more travel than before. Cleaned up my intercooler pipes while I was under the car, so those are clean and will give me a chance to see if the oil/crud buildup comes back.

Just got back from a 'spirited' drive. Didn't get any smoke out the back, but when it warmed up properly, I did give it some, and I seem to have got second and third gear back. Definitely scared myself a few times on the B-roads. Nearly hit a pheasant too - glad my brakes work better these days.

I'm going to give myself a few weeks at least before I tackle the intake manifold. I'm just glad I've done pretty much all the jobs I had to do under the car. My neck is absolutely killing me.

Thanks for all your help. I can't believe those piddly bolts are what holds the downpipe onto the turbo...

Nice one.
Glad to hear its made a difference 👍
A decent run once in a while will keep it clear.

I wont dig at you to get the manifold done, i promise 😁

Keep having a dig - it's the only way I'll work up the energy to get out there and do it!

Compared to a lot of the stuff I've done over the past year, I don't think it's going to cause me too much trouble, and I can take my time over it too, so long as the girlfriend doesn't want to use the car.

That Mr Muscle job has been hanging over me for such a long time - I'm just glad I can tick it off the list. Now all I've got to do is...

Intake manifold clean
Attach P-Clips to rear beam brake hard lines
Nearside front wheel bearing
Boost gauge
Glow plugs
Repair paint on front and rear bumpers
Horn

And...

Clutch.

So not much then.

Finally got rid off that warning airbag light. Dismantled the steering wheel, the spring clock dongle, cleaned and sprayed all those connectors. Put it all back up and checked for airbag light. Still there but now VCDS was a buddy and remembered me why it was such a good investment: scan it, erase it and its gonne. No more yellow light on the dashboard. Ufff.....

What's the plan?

Normally the shifter box is mounted in the tunnel, have moved it to on top. Just need to cut a hole in the bulkhead, feed the cables through, seal it all up, and put everything back together.

Just having a break atm as my arm is fecked (previously mentioned workplace injury)

The car will be doing track days at some point. There’s a few reasons why, main one is to get it closer to the steering wheel which should speed up changes a bit, it also means servicing it is easier as there’s no need to remove the exhaust centre section and the heat shielding to get at it, also gives a mounting point for some switchgear I’m thinking of mounting there

Fitted a rear anti roll bar. Thanks @Thai-wronghorse for supplying it ;)
The clamps going round the rear beam were a pain in the bum. I’d love to get hold of some proper clamps like the ones used on the neuspeed arbs. Anyhow, all fitted and all good.
I have the front arb too, but fitting that is way above my grade and I really don’t want to go to a garage so it’ll stay off for now.

Had a rubbing brake caliper on the driver fr side to sort, took it apart and cleaned it up but when i went to open the brake fluid res to wind the piston back, it was already loosey goosey o_O wondering if doing that up has helped shift the scrape.

You've got a very clean and tidy looking rear end there.

Good to see you've got it fitted it mate, yeah those clamps are fiddly when new as they're obviously not to the shape of the rear beam but once on they're sweet.
I've got the Neuspeed bar on mine and admittedly the supplied clamps with those are better but then they're also considerably more expensive.
The front isn't particularly difficult but definitely more involved as you'll need to drop the subframe to do it.
