Just get the axle out of the way and poke em out?

Without starting a new thread on an already well discussed subject.
What bushes are people replacing these with and where to get them from?

Changed my thermostat..... twice I’ve put the thing back together and it’s still dripping coolant so **** it until tomorrow

Cut off the new OS tie rod (1mm cutting discs ftw!)
fitted a new new tie rod end
Went to torque it up
thought "I best check this"
hand on top
wobbly still
swore a bit
carefully undid new new tie rod end
Offered remnants of new track rod end up
Saw why it was wobbly
Mounting hole is oval
Swore some more
Looked up ways to fix it
Swore a tad more
Closed search results
Closed up garage
Had a sit down

Sounds productive but no, not really

Swears some more

Did you need any special tooling to push the new ones in?

I've just put one side in. Used two steel disks with a hole drilled in the middle, and some threaded bar. They went in without any trouble, but you do need something to push them in.

So I was trying to get my offside done as well, only when I was undoing the lower shock absorber bolt, it got to the end of the thread and stopped. It looks like it's threading itself now.

Crap.

I'm feeling like I'm going to have to hacksaw off the old one and put a new one in.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement nut and bolt from? I'm screwed otherwise.

Just to say on the outer ring point - it depends. I think the later models had plastic rings, while some of the earlier ones had metal.

Mine's an 05 FR TDI - it could be different with the petrol Cupra.

With the metal ones, you just have to clean out the rubber and then saw through the ring, so a fair bit harder than the plastic, but still doable as a DIY job.

The right tools seem to be most important - 18mm socket and spanner and a jack that you can lower smoothly.

I didn't have to use my breaker bar in the end, but it's handy to have in any case.

B&Q etc for big nuts n bolts if theyre open.

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look at the rear bushes at some point and see how theyre looking.

Ah perfect - I have some M10 nuts here so will just try and find a 75mm M10 bolt. I can get something similar at Screwfix so will do that tomorrow.

Thought I was stranded there for a while... Thanks!

I have the same ones as mooks and Yellow FR, havnt fitted yet but one thing i found out;

They dont have a recess in them like the Pflex ones, thats apparently a feature added to aid rear steering and harshness

They do in fact have the recess

Either way for 35 quid im sure it'll fix my rear drivers side sagging and squeeking, and if not then its no bother
