Resurrecting this one!

Hi everyone

I've just picked up a 2017 Leon FR 1.4 EcoTSI 150... my past 2 cars were a 2013 Leon FR with SEAT Sound and a 2016 Golf GTI with VW's equivalent (Dynaudio), and this new one has the mid-level 8 speaker setup. It sounds okay, but I'm missing the little extra depth. I've had a look under the boot floor and I just have the foam kit rather than any spare, so I don't know if I need to look into putting a space saver spare in there, too?

I tried going to a few car audio shops and all want to sell me things which will blow my head off!

It seems a few of you got somewhere with the retrofit, but the images have expired/gone over bandwidth and disappeared!

If anyone came across a good English write up of what to get, where to get it from, and what to do, it would be massively appreciated :)

Hate to bring up an old thread but I'm just wondering if anybody in the North East (Newcastle Upon Tyne) area has managed to do this?

I'm due to pick up my Leon FR at the weekend and would love to have the seat sound installed. I'm happy to run cables etc. but not confident in wiring things up.

Would be willing to pay someone to do this.

Apart from the 2 extras speakers, is there any other advantages to SEAT sound?

Yes but without coding sound will be **** as subwoofer and central speaker will be served as front speaker and your front speaker will be sound as voice speaker no bass at all

I got lost part way through the thread when it came to the activation coding.

Did you finally manage to code this to work with just VCDS or did you need a SEAT dealers computer that can access the SVM to activate SEAT Sound ?

The physical install looks pretty easy and is relatively cheap.
If activation is by VCDS then I can sort that too if there is a guide.

But if it needs a seat dealer to activate it I probably won't bother.

I too wanted to do this but I went another route as I already had 2 underseat kenwood subs from my previous car.

I installed them both and wired into the front speaker wires behind the unit in the dash..... Subs can handle both high level or low level input. They have volume, bass and frequency range adjustment too...

This alternative method to add more bass was way easier for me. Plus no coding needed....

You need vag can pro to upload the correct files from a .zdc-file for the new mib2 unit.
Vcds wont do.
Only if the donor car where the mib2 unit came from had Seat Sound you're good.
If not the mib2 unit will send signals to the wrong loudspeakers (Seat sound = 9VD)

Mib2 came from Ibiza so I doubt it.

Can the AliExpress vcp tools do this ? The coding is definitely in 5f ?

I retrofitted the seat sound system in my Leon. I was told only original vcp can do it.

I don’t know if the ibiza has seat sound supystem as an option.

Check your long coding in 5f- byte 4 on the mib2. If it says ‘FF’ its probably coded for seat sound system.

The uploading of the data to paramatrize the mib2 is something else.

I was looking today. pretty sure it is FF but no sub woofer option. Is there vcds coding to show the sub woofer if FF already in long coding.

The FF coding is a way the STG 5F checks the loudspeaker set up is correct.
If you scan for problems, you get errors in the loudspeaker settings with FF as your unit/car is parametrized for 6/8 loudspeakers and not 9+subwoofer.
Subwoofer menu is only enabled after 9VD coding.

I will check to make sure FF but no errors showing. So how can FF exist on new unit but still need this 9vd coding I assume you are talking about factory build codes ?

To be honest...i dont know. It seems odd, perhaps different on the Ibiza...
How is the sound comming from the speakers?
My knowledge on this topic comes from forums and what i did to get the correct coding and set up for my LEON.

Sound seems ok however no subwoofer option. The mib2 has been worked on but I don't know if hacked or used Odis to setup the unit for mib1 car.

If you are sure FF enables SS maybe the subwoofer option can be enabled somehow

Admap was taken with the old unit but nothing relates to SS so not sure what parameter enables this.

Only FF does not enable

i’m very sorry, but i cant help you any further with this.
Off what i read, the subwoofer can not be simply coded with vcds/obd11.
You should find someone with vag can pro to read out the unit.
Good luck.

Btw, in 2 weeks (first CP removal at Seat dealer) i’m sending my second hand mib2 std unit to Poland (APG) to get it reprogrammed.
The donor car (Leon) did not have Seat Sound (D7 in byte 4) so i already specified that the mib2 needs to be reparametrized.
