Having looked at the instructions for each page, they are somewhat different. The 'Seat Navi System' instructions mention MapCare and how you shouldn't follow the process unless you have it and the Plus system instructions don't mention MapCare at all.

So it seems the later 'High' systems on MY16 cars do not require MapCare and the update can be done yourself, whereas the earlier pre-MY16 requires MapCare.

Not sure where you stand if you have a pre-MY16 with High though....

He talks about a charge for the "card" so it can't be the nav high because the nav high keeps the maps on the hard drive.

Found this interesting as this chap seems to have updated this himself with 12 files !!!! and quote "a great deal of computer literacy........."

What on earth is going on.....

Sounds like the has done what I did with my old RNS310 in my MK2, Download loads of compressed files which you uncompress into 1 file and update. its quite easy but I didn't know it was possible with the new system.

I will try tomorrow.

Hit a stumbling block, the works window 7 machines don't have unzipping software on them so can't do it.

Will have to do it at home.

MapCare definitely needed for MY15 and earlier models. Looks like MIGHT not be needed for MY16.

Tried to do the update but yeh system doesn't recognise the files as updates, I thought I had solved it when I checked the .txt file and my part number was missing so simply added it but nope didn't work.

For your information, over here in Belgium we can use the MapCare service. I had to order the mapcare option with my modelyear 2016 Leon even with the navigation high system you have to order it in order to have 3 years of updates.

GreatBritainSouth_ExtZips.psf
GreatBritainSouth_GeocodingPOIIndices.psf
GreatBritainSouth_GlobalPOIIndices.psf

As an aside I called SEAT Customer Services, played dumb, and was told that I qualify for one free map upgrade (SD card/dealer/code to car etc. method) - but no timescale given for expiry of this. March 2015 registered Cupra 280 ST.

I'll check with dealer at next service, but will hold off for a couple of years if I can as loads of new roads being build round my way at present....

Written by John Tellick, Surbiton, Surrey...........anyone know him?

Grey Leon......if he really has done it, he holds the map to find the holy grail of SEAT sat nav workarounds.
