Even in that state you can tell just how much of a solid car it was. Shame. I hope te search is going well for the new motor? 
Do you have any friends in Germany that could source a leon cupra 4 for you. Bring it back to Blighty and get it converted back to RHD and stick a super charger on it.
A lot of hassle though, a Leon Cupra R then? I prefer the mk1 as they have a very similar fell to the mk1 jetta I had. Very progressive break away of cornering grip and ability to throttle steer when it's on the limit. The mk2/05 on has a suspension setup that maybe gives greater cornering speeds but once you reach the limits it can just let go, usually at the back end.

Not a bag of pooh in other words like my 1.8t audi a6 that needs a new cam adjuster or that guy that was having problems with a leaking fuel pump from the dealers, in a mk2 leon cupra.
It's hard to get a 2nd car without someone trying to shine one of their problems on to you.

Evo 8 fq330 mapped get one of them easy same price as an m3.
It's not the unreliabity of the smg box for me it's the fact when I get rear wheel drive cars they have to be manuals it's the only true way of having fun and controlling the arse end properly. You can't feather a kick down box lol.
