Spent the day working on it, in what turned out to awesome weather. Firstly I tidied up all the wiring I had done, including SAI delete, coolant level and screenwash level delete's and even got the screenwash working. It's scary starting to do menial tasks like that makes me realise its close to completion!

The sump has been sitting reduculously close to the ground, last year I got a set of 3/4 inch risers to go under the engine mounts to raise it up a bit. Was a bit awkward to do on my drive, as I couldn't get any kind of jack under the engine, nor could I get the engine Crain close enough, either way I struggled and sorted it. Btw if you ever want any friends, just buy an engine Crain, they will all pop round to borrow it. I just got mine back after it being round about 6 different people for the last 8 months.

There are two bad trates I have. One is Obsessive compulsive (not the good kind that makes people clean stuff) and I'm impatient. Both of these result in poor modified cars.
When I built my engine, one of the new chain guide bolts never turned up. I put the old one back as a temp measure, then hand a think about it, and it really didn't matter too much, so I carried with one old bolt.

Ever since this has been niggling at me, and I knew I would never dare drive the car hard because 'what if'

Last weekend, A friend was going to come over to give me a hand to finish off the lambda wiring and exhaust, ready to tow it down to get an exhaust built. By the time my friend got here, he found me trying to wrestle a 10000kg gearbox out of the engine bay. I had taken the rash desicion to take the box back off, and strip the engines covers down and fit new bolts as piece of mind. After I got the box out, I didn't fancy doing it in the bay, or even having to wrestle the box back in as it was, so we just took the engine out too :crazy:

Good thing really, I have a set if Miltek Manifolds that will be bloody easy to fit now, and I gave the gearbox a good clean and another lick of paint, as t'was looking a little tired.

I also had a tin if pink plasti dip on my garage. And for some reason I decided I wanted to test spray it in the bay to see what the colour was like. I then proceeded to paint the bay untill I ran out of paint, giving me a strange pink cammo kind of thing. Why I did it I don't know. Will I sort it out? probably not. Do I care? A little bit, yes. Will I now put the engine back in, let this niggle at me so long untill I take it back out, and send the car away to be sprayed? Absolutely. Viva la impatience.

Good thinking on the bolt my main sprocket bolt was left loose when I got my car 1000 miles later came undone bam 6 valves bent ....


The pink bay I seriously think you need to keep it that way looks so much better than black

The chances of the chain slipping are pretty slim, but if i did bend some valves i would never live with the thought that i could have prevented it, still, makes fitting the manifolds easy as pie. Can't wait to hear how they sound ^.^

The pink finish is pretty poor at the moment, but you are right, it will be staying pink, in one form or another.

Fantastic RR mate!! I would love to do an engine conversion, but definitely do not have the money for that lol!

The way my cars going, it's going to end up as a rally spec car haha!!

The bay looks so clean and tidy, you must have the patience of a saint?!

Still love the original pink colour you had. The plastic stuff has made a massive visual difference though.


Yeah i know, but tbh, even when the engine is in, i can't see it being an issue to paint round it, plenty of room. Once it is running properly, i want to completely extend the wiring loom and run it through the chassis rails, so will probably end up welding up where the stock loom runs and getting someone else to paint it pink properly.

Whilst the engine was out, would have been rude not to fit a set of Miltek manifolds. Tbh with how poor the stock downpipes restrict, I think the Shrick cams would have been pointless without them! You can see below the comparison between my stock, and the Miltek downpipes.

I feel a load better now that they are replaced. It's all built back up now with the clutch on, ready for the box, but I don't feel like wrestling it on today, becuase it ****'n heavy!

Got back on it today. Refitted the horrifically heavy gearbox, which early weighs as much as me, i spent ages staring at it hoping it would just fit its self. But as it never does, i had to do some heavy lifting.

Notice the use of an old longboard. I knew there was a reason i kept it. Whilst the engine was out i also drained out the initial engine oil. And yes, when i fitted the engine i used the volvo to push it in. My drive is on a slope, the engine/box weighs about a billion tonnes, and the wheels on the crane are hardly free rolling. So i just jacked it up, and drove the car forward. Its nice working at home and not having to adhere to Health and safety :lol:




And finally she is back in, right back where it was a few weeks ago.
