Anyone tried retrofit projector lights?

If you could get your hands on a used Dectane or something and attempt to change it to RHD, it would be awesome. However, that could be like the "last" thing you do as retrofitting projector lenses in the stock head light units is more important and beneficial, to be honest with you. Not only will you design it the way you want and put anything you want inside, but also you could make a small home-business out of it by retrofitting lenses for others. You'll need to do it at least twice or three times, though, and perfect it before you actually start doing it for others because as you may know, people may start blaming and pointing fingers like I am doing at the guy who did them for me right now. :D

I think the issue here was that he had your lights so was limited on time so rushed the retrofit. Personally I would take my time on it and carry out checks to make sure everything was correct prior to giving them back. It's probably easier to get hold of another set of lights and do it that way? This is why I've purchased a second set so I can take my time...as I've said...when I'm 80!

Will be good to see if you can do it properly! Also, since I haven't heard anything I take it the DRLs didn't go well on the fog light grills?

I guess that could be the problem. And I must say, I wasn't able to wait at all and kept nagging him to finish them so that could very well be why he rushed it and messed it up. But if you look at how he sealed it is alone enough to say that he did a crappy job. I've heard that it is even possible to preserve the OEM sealant and reheat it and it'll all stick back together after you're done, or you can just buy a seal and do it professionally so it wouldn't even be obvious. It is partially my fault while at the same time his, but I guess life's lessons don't just easily come.

As for now my head lights are in the boot of my car and whenever I get free time I'll attempt to fix the mess myself. First by reheating and opening it up, trying to adjust the lenses correctly, taking out the two extra rings on the main beam reflectors, and re-spraying it black if necessary and then putting it all back together in an efficient way. He sealed it by using silicone and it's like popping out, so do you think if I reheat it I can take/scrub it all off or is it going to stain the head light covers permanently?

Don't heat the silicone!...just pull it off by hand, it's a pain but it may come off in strips. Also, you can reheat the existing adhesive and push the lenses back on but the correct stuff to use in mentioned in the thread started by Jon TDi so have a look there.

Still thinking about options for the vents to be honest but the main reason is that I'm struggling for time to get everything done! Probably get these vents done when I'm 90!

I also agree. He's in no rush now since you have other headlamps. Take them back and get him to do the job properly. If he can't then ask for replacement original headlamps because he messed up your old ones!

I don't think I can trust him with the head lights any longer because he seems to do a horrible job with them. I was advised against doing this from my friends and colleagues and I still did it, so I feel like I am the one to blame because it was my mistake from the beginning. Giving him the head lights will be useless because all he'll do is take a very long time and still end up doing a horrible job, why? Because even though I've went to him about three times he STILL sees NOTHING wrong with the alignment or the job itself, so how can I convince him? The only thing I can do is to ask him to return it back to stock, but I don't want to do that because as I said, when I have free time I'll work on them myself and I am looking forward to do that.

Thread revival time. as the cogs in my mind tick, somthing tells me i would like to go about all this a different way. im writing this theoretically as i cannot be ars£d to look at the light setup because its cold. I forsee a beam position problem, e.g. left and right angle. id prefer to make an adjustable housing so i can get the perfect beam position. This may also allow me to go in through the back of the headlight which i prefer and create a strong mount point vs. Drilling into the plastic reflector.

Has anyone started this mod Yet (ROB)?? Haha

what HID kit can i get with a veiw to upgrade to projectors? Have they got to be short bulbs?

:) i might have this done for next winter

Regarding the HID kit, just buy the 35W terminator kit from hids-direct as it is can-bus compatible and so far all the reviews on the forum have been great about them. As for the bulbs, what do you mean by short bulbs? If you're talking about size, the bulbs that come with the terminator kit will fit in your OEM reflectors just fine, both H7, H7, or even HB4 (fog lights), so don't worry about that.

Funnily enough, you'll never guess what arrived in the post today!....my FX-R projectors, shrouds, fixing bolts etc., Angel eyes etc. will start them ASAP!

On a separate note, took a Mercedes C220 CDI Sport 125 Edition for a spin today...might be getting one of those this month! But only to replace the A3 and not the Leon!

Ha ha... that's awesome, buddy. Woah! I am glad you're not changing the Leon, but congratulations in advance, Benzes are awesome, especially the C-class which are my favorite.

Oh man I cannot wait for your retrofitting project, this is going to be great, I hope! :D Best of luck to you. By the way, can you take a picture of the shrouds, angel eyes, and projectors you purchased? Or perhaps a link to the kit you bought? I'd like to see the size and such.

Wow.. those holos look awesome. The light output, color, and design seem flawless. Best of luck on that retrofit, I sure am looking forward to it!

These halos are just great...no loss in light and are basically the best ones on the market at the moment!...The photos doesn't really do it justice (they never do!) but its really bright and looks great!
