Fogs as DRLs

I've often wondered about the effort involved in becoming a ticket-issuing traffic officer - I don't want to make a career out of it, but...

Being a Police officer is all about structure and discipline; you have to structure your day, to discipline the maximum number of drivers –

Early AM – plenty of drivers with foglights on in the rush-hour. Choose a busy location and pull people over as necessary. Also stop motorists that are using their phones and driving without seatbelts.
Mid-morning to Lunch – Motorways! – pull over all drivers that clearly have little knowledge or regard for lane discipline. The congestion these motorists cause make this difficult at peak times – catch them early to ensure safer stops and so as not to disrupt other motorists.
Break for lunch and make a start on the morning’s paperwork.
Once refreshed, back out on the motorways and liven things up a bit with high-speed pursuit of speeding motorists. The speedlimit on a motorway is 70mph - 90+mph is unacceptable.
School-run – more foglights to be had here. Also, in new residential 20mph limits you can test your speed gun on the motorists who continue to exceed 30 :)
Early evening (weather dependant) – camp out at the top of a hill in a residential area, or along the road out of a small village with your speed gun armed and the window down. Finish off the paperwork for all the tickets you issued earlier in the day while listening out for the tell-tale whaaa of kids breaking the speedlimit. Issue speeding tickets/impound vehicles as necessary.

Lather, rinse, repeat. Once word gets out about ‘that c**ty police officer who issues tickets for middle-laning, only doing 50 in a 30 limit, or driving with your foglights on’ people will start to think more about their driving and I can go back to doing what I was doing.

That would probably be the end of my police career tbh ...being asked to leave after stopping my collegues and lecturing them on the merits of setting a good example :D

Haha! Could definitely do with tuition on which lane to be in! I'm only 18 but get so annoyed with drivers sitting in the middle lane when there's nothing within half a mile of them! MOVE OVER :mad:

That used to wind me up.

But then I realised that I was guilty of it quite often :whistle:

I'm not so bad now I can set the cruise control to 60 and pootle along in a nice relaxed manner - not a lot of scope for middle-laneing at 60!

As a side not, even though the fogs are enabled as DRLs,, they do not output at the full light level, so it's not like I'm driving with fogs on. They are output at a much lower power, which can be put even lower if they're too bright.

Yes, I've had many situations where I've had to override my auto lights, Every time it's due to rain/spray on a bright day. The sensor thinks it's bright enough to not need lights but the spray makes it hard to see the tail lights of the car in front. There should be a setting where your lights come on if your wipers are on continuously.

On the Focus i find if the wipers are on continuous for longer then 5 minutes or so on come the lights (both auto)

Go for it, I've had mine done for ages (waiting for the abuse) like you said you can adjust the output, I think they are set at 72% by default.

One thing for sure, badly fitted / aligned HIDs and some none standard bulbs are way worse.

Can this be activated on the pre facelift? I remember seeing the options on vcds, but sure it was greyed out

I'm don't know about the pre facelift, the only other thing that has to be changed is all the side lights come on as well by default.
