Good work 8bit, that certainly makes sense. Mine still does it unfortunately, it seem to be intermittent. Though i got rid of it. :( You can buy a "race" version from awesome, this could be worth a try.

If its the ECS Race version it was more aggressive than a J-valve used to be, its been out for ages now. Sometimes ended up giving limp mode as a consequence...

Cheers guys. Current N75 is the E variant, which is the latest revision for this car. Supplied by SERE.

So yesterday I managed to do some logging and adjustments using the SPS switch (thanks Yohan :) ). Haven't had time to sit and go through the logs properly, was at the pub for the Grand National yesterday and too hungover today :) Basically, we ended up pulling back the boost to 5 which reduced the noise and flat spot on boost in 4th. After logging CFs we pulled timing back to 3 to reduce correction factors. So we were thinking that maybe boost and timing settings of 6 and 4 respectively were a bit too aggressive for my car.

On the way home I noticed though that I still have the noises and slight flat spot at WOT from lowish RPM in 3rd though. So not sure what that means in terms of what's causing this. I'm sort of thinking possibly a boost or vac leak somewhere, Yohan commented that the lambda figures looked a bit wobbly.

Will go through the logs and graph some of the data tomorrow and see what's what.

I was thinking about this the other night, you have all the mods on your intake side to pull more air in, but the exhaust setup remains stock.

Maybe time to invest in a decent 3" DP and sports CAT to get some of those gasses out the way quicker? Or as you suggested it might be time for an FMIC to allow for a bit more expansion room?

More mods would be nice but I can't afford it this year with saving for the wedding unfortunately. TBH I'm not sure that's what's wrong as I could still hear the flutter/screech on boost when I went back to the old-style THS TIP for a bit.

I was out in the car again last night, had a bit of a better chance to kick it around a bit. It's definitely better since reducing boost and timing, a touch slower but definitely smoother. The flutter is all but gone, just that sort of screechy noise from peak boost until boost levels out. I'm sort of thinking small boost/vac leak. Might try a shim in the DV along with the blue spring, see if that helps, and/or run the DV in reverse.

I think the next thing to do is pressure test, if that shows failure to hold pressure then a smoke test to see where it's leaking from.

Thats a bummer. Oh well, next time :)

TBH 1/4 mile isn't really my thing anyway, I might have gone just to see cars and chat to folk if I was free though. All going to plan I won't be in a SEAT next year tho, probably not even a VAG, but I've changed my mind on what I fancy next a couple of times so not ruling anything out yet.

Meantime I just want to get the LCR sorted so I can enjoy the time I have left with it...

Fair point, as I said tho I have other stuff on that weekend anyway, I'm 99% certain I won't be fit to drive on the Sunday.

Been through a few ideas, Monaro/VXR8 was one, Focus RS another. Always fancied something JDM and a bit mental too though, R33/34 Skyline, Supra twin turbo or Silvia S15 maybe. Just ideas, won't say anything until the time comes, at this rate that won't be til after the wedding in about a year's time anyway.

VXR8 Barthurst - That is a must have if you are going down the V8 route - Supercharger Treble with the V8 Bass works nicely!

If you are interested in a Supra or Silvia, there are a few lads in toon who would be able to help/advise you on them.

Never been a fan of the noise of superchargers personally, sounds like something's broken. The boost would be nice but the Chevy LS2/LS3 blocks are hardly short of grunt in the first place.

Just one idea of many, will see what happens when the time comes. If the mrs does change her MX5 for something with more seats then I won't necessarily have to have more than 2, that opens up some more options to me. Plenty of time to think about it for the moment.

Not much by way of updates lately, had the car on a 500-ish mile round trip to my parents' at the weekend past. Was great having the extra grunt of the remap, the road is mostly pretty twisty up that way with not a lot of opportunities to overtake safely. Being able to pop it into 4th and just blast past two or three vehicles safely in a short stretch of road is nice :)

The twisty bits were a lot of fun too, the ARBs help the handling a lot too. Think I'm gonna enjoy the car for a bit rather than change anything else. Got some wax, polish and clay so if it's dry over the weekend I'll set about it and try and get it properly clean.

A long drive is a great way to fully appreciate your car, sounds like you had fun :) Heading down the Devon in june to visit my dad, looking forward to having an extended drive in my car. It will be straight after a service too, which is alway nice.

Yeah it was a good run :) Some good roads down Devon way?

Borrowed a stock DV to try on the car last night to see if that would fix the screechy noise on boost, no joy. So I guess it's nothing to do with the DV being a piston type, unless the OEM DV is prone to the diaphragm lifting the same way a piston is, not sure. Might stick the shims in the 008 along with the blue spring and run it in reverse to see if that helps.

Also going to try using the SPS to switch back to stock and see if that fixes the noise. If so then I'll start building back up the boost setting to see how much I can run without the noise appearing and get it logged with that. Tempted just to take it in to Wallace Performance, get one of the guys to come out for a quick run so they can hear the noise and see what they think, maybe get it smoke tested if they reckon it's something that needs fixed.

Update on the stock DV - didn't fix it, so I guess that officially rules out the DV as the issue. I did, however, get a reminder of how poor the stock valve is - it's audibly slower to dump and recover, the car feels a bit lumpy when putting the foot in and it makes some weird-ass noises. Will get the 008 back in there at the weekend.

Did a search on here for "cavitation", wondering if that was what my noises are all about. Found a post from rsmith a while ago, he describes the exact same noises and behaviour I'm getting. Turned out for him it was the suction jet pump in the PCV system so I've ordered a new one of those from SERE. Fingers crossed.

Finally, the SFS upper boost hoses FINALLY arrived. Much better quality silicon than the Creations ones, the sizes and shapes look better side by site. Will get them on at the weekend :)

Update on funny noises. Changed the suction jet pump last night and checked all the hoses and pipes I could get to easily. Still making that funny noise, although I swear the car feels a little smoother and the brakes are a little sharper than before.

So next step, get it pressure tested...
