That's well dead looks like It's melted obviously it hasn't but is very dead lol
Definately dead, think it got so hot the rod became malleable enough to bend and fail

Cracking work mate, if you need an extra pair of hands at the weekends let me know and I'd be happy to muck in (if the other half hasn't arranged the weekend already!)

What size is the S3 wheel? Have you got the 2 piece setup (i.e spaced calipers)?

Not sure how I've missed this thread Tim!!! I thought I'd subscribed!
Hi Ad,
Yes i'm running the 330mm 2 piece setup spacing the brembos
S3 avus wheels are 225/45/17
Will be pottering doing bits and pieces on the weekends if you ever want to pop over just give me a bell
Awesome thread, just read the lot :) keep the updates coming!
Cheers mate, will do
did you ever try to fit the oem ronal arrasate 7,5x17" ?

i'd like to upgrade to brembo junior kit but i want to be sure i can keep my 17 arrasate rims for winter WITHOUT SPACERS..:)

thanks.:)
I had abit of a look and appears they do fit over the GT kit

Well the day started by barn turning up just as i was getting out of bed, being a lazy old git
The only real things are the rear suspension and fuel tank left to come off.
So started on the rear axle and as per usual with the rest of the car every bolt was a pain in the ass to get out, so glad i have a big breaker bar
Undid the swing arms, dampers, took the springs out and knocked the driveshafts out.
On the drivers side there is one bolt holding the swing arm on as it was totally round so will drill it out tomorrow.
We then dropped the rear subframe with diff out.
Then tidied up the rest of the front and middle of the car taking it down to pretty much bare shell.
Took all the gear linkages and lever assembly out, then the hard brake piping and the heat shield mat the is attached to the bulkhead.
Tried to the take out the master cylinder and while trying to dettach the rod got smacked in the face nearly cutting my forehead open.
Having a bit of a temper at this point i lost it, threw a few tools and educated the neighbours in colourful language and got my lump hammer and belted the living feck out of it until it smashed off.
After calming down a bit we pulled the fuel lines back to the filter and removed the filler neck from the car.
Disconnected the pump, which there only appeared to be on one side but i thought there would be two due to its shape and straddling the prop? someone can correct me on this though. Then undid the two straps and dropped the tank out and removed.
After removing yet more heat shielding and having a tidy up and sort through the bits it was getting dark so we called it a day and got some pizza.
I did notice though that i cant see any sort of hydraulic connection from the ABS controller to the rear diff.
There is part of the loom that goes to the haldex controller so i will see if i can split this from the loom and figure out where it goes and transfer to my car
Nearly done now almost an empty shell ready for cutting up just need to sell the huge quantity of bits i dont need, buy a plasma/Tig unit, spot weld drill and spend many hours looking at exactly where to cut

I've just sat here pissing myself as muh as i did when it happened recalling the moment:lol:

Been having some quotes over the last few days for getting my wheels powdercoated.
For the colour i want it seems very difficult to get hold of in the UK as its mostly used in the US so most quotes have been £100+ per wheel.
After a trip to a local place this morning for a chat before work, i found he offer an alternative from a company called chromadex which is just a fraction lighter and he offered it at £40 a wheel and he had it in stock.
So after work i had a quick drive home and the work started
2012-03-29175443.jpg

Its amazing how much smaller the S3 rims look and how much they dont suit the car either.
All done and got to say i cant wait to swap back
2012-03-29183114.jpg

So taking my wheels to work tomoorow to get the tyres off and will drop the rims off on monday morning and have them back by the weekend.
Also the S3 wheels have gone flat at some point so are slightly leaking air, the guy at ETB was only too happy to tell me they were leaking and charge me for that gem of wisdom but then refuse to reseal them or change the valves as they'd gone 'flat'
Need to start looking into plasma/welder unit too, any suggestions?

Well today i thought i'd start fitting something i've had for ages ready for when i order the pipework
I had this forge can altered to suit the setup i was going for
2012-04-01150451.jpg

2012-04-01150500.jpg

It has a nice little sight glass to be able to see how full it is and is just the right height for the pipes to run just over the filter piping.
I put a few cut off fingers from some gloves over the ports until my pipework arrives but all the bracketry is made now but just need to rotate it slightly as i can hear the can occasionally knocking on the bonnet gas strut
2012-04-01151532.jpg

Will get cracking on removing all the crappy pipework with some nice PTFE as soon as possible

Had a quick few hours on the audi today and its nearly ready for chopping up
Started by pulling all the loom back through the bulkhead and removing from the car as a complete item and see where the haldex cabling is ran to.
How clean and basic it looks now, just leaving the boot and doors on to stop water ingress and keep the overflowing amount of bits contained

2012-04-08175700.jpg

Just need to get sell this stuff to fund a welder/plasma and start reading up as i'm sure the neighbours dont want a car shell hanging around outside their houses too long.
Also the remainder of my INA order has now landed in Brum so should have it delivered in the week:D I'll update with some bling pics once it arrives

Wow love it very stealthy in black :) amazing spec list as well :)
Cheers, thats the look in going for, a proper sleeper

You got your wheels back yet Tim?
Not yet, spoke to the bloke on wednesday and he said wheels are very difficult to do in candy colours as they can sometimes have darker patches in the nooks and crannies.
I've told him to try it on the spare and i will go and have a look at how it turns out before commiting to having all the wheels done, just the bank holidays have slowed it all up

Been doing some internet researching and think i've found a way of completely turning off the ESP through vagcom coding
Its actually taken from mk4 R32's used for track racing that wanted to keep ABS but stop the ESP being overly intrusive when the steering angle is not completely straight.

I finally figured it out

Disabling ESP on R32 MK60 via VCDS coding

The ESP bit in the ECU controller 03 (ABS) is:
Soft
Code
ESP Bit
V
Original: 23049 = 101101000001001 ABS/ESP/EDL
-2048 = 100000000000 (ESP Bit)
New: 21001 = 101001000001001 ABS/EDL (no more ESP)

To perform it:
VCDS -> Coding -> 07 Login 40168
Coding 11 -> Enter 21001 in place of 23049 and "Do it" button

Tested it on my wet lawn, the ABS works great and the ESP does not interfere when on the power!
No more apex out acceleration issues. Priceless!

So at some point i will have a trip over to see Phillc to see if it will work as i'm pretty sure we both could do with getting this done especially if i'm going to try and get one last trackday in before my rebuild
