Big thank you to buzz for starting this all off
Buzz is a legend in his own mind and yes given us all a good smile so fair play to him
Review just in from Barryboys..........
'More speed, more emotions", says Seat about its new Leon Buzz, and we'll see about those emotions; I'm feeling only mild indifference. Sometimes marketing people should shut up and stop pretending people are going to fall passionately in love with their cars, especially if the car is as unlovable as this one. Instead they should concentrate on the reasons you might buy them.
Which in this case are those extra mph 140mph , in fact. And you're allowed to feel slightly smug about yourself – in the way that drivers of a Ferrari or Lamborghini do when going fast, especially when you stay with them and maybe even overtake them in a 1.9TDi. But this smugness comes at a price, because this car is not very reliable.
It uses any diesel by the bucket load 30mpg is the official combined figure, but I think I did better than that. I drove from London to Staffordshire and back at 140mph, and it cost me about £80. It's got one of those functions that tells you how many miles per gallon you're doing, and it's hard not to become obsessed: 30, 24, 20... 15 miles per gallon! OK, so I'm going downhill, with the wind behind me, and so slowly I've crept to 145mph. But, hey, I'm killing the planet. Well, destroying it more quickly and somewhere, much farther north, the polar bears are crying into their beer.
All cars should have massive mph displays, by law, because for most people seeing a high speed is an even bigger incentive to go faster than saving the world. We'd be increasing our emissions, as well as being poorer and dead (maybe there is a little bit of emotion involved after all). So many problems solved in one master stroke.
What's it like to drive? Well, the Leon Buzz couldn't really be any less dangerous. Put your foot down and nothing happens. There's no perceptible increase in speed until you get past 100mph then the Leon Buzz just flies. Take your foot off, and it very slowly slows down again, because of its tweaked aerodynamics by Buzz (Lowered by 50cm a surf board as the rear wing a go faster
sticker “I will Crush you” and its low resistance scooter tyres with black scooter rims off a Kymco Agility 50 look very smart.
Actually its low down-ness and slippery shape do give it an almost sporty look if the surf board does not come off at 140mph as Bluetac does not work at those speeds, but I have driven canal boats that handle better in all honesty.
That really doesn't matter, though, because that's not what this car is about. It's about that number – the mph one, and the potential to die. At those things, it's brilliant. All it needs is a brilliant slogan. Here's one: "To Infinity and beyond" They can have that, on me.
