Leon FR PD170 TDi Injector problem

I have 07 FR TDI.
Sat at lights and car cut out with battery light on. Restarted ok but cut out twice more. I had this a few months ago also.
Could this be a sign of injector failure or something else ?
I`m off on holiday Monday so contacted customer care as car will be 4 years old when I return (25k on clock). Was told if its injectors 99% certain they will pay as I have full dealer history.
They only just paid to replace my ABS module !

OMG, I cannot believe what I've been reading here for the last 2 hours!!
My 57 FR (51K) broke down on the M4 motorway on saturday. Lost power in the fast lane, then went into idle mode. At first I thought I had put the wrong fuel in, checked my receipt...all ok there! The warning on the dash said Engine Fault - Workshop.
Recovery bloke got the car home. Called the dealer I bought it from only 6 weeks ago
They said it wasn't covered by the 3 month warranty, (it came with 3 mths non moving parts warranty) I said the problem hadn't been diagnosed yet, and as it stated on the dashboard it was an engine fault!!
Took it to the garage on Tuesday, to be told today that injector #3 had gone. They have already replaced a wiring loom to try to diagnose the fault. The bill is now just over £800...The garage I bought the car from have said they will pay for the injector and 2 hours labour as a good will gesture...something at least!!
Reading all these posts, I think I will be contacting Seat UK tomorrow and ask why there hasn't been a safety recall on this problem, and see if they will refund me the money for the wiring loom job, and to replace the other 3 injectors!!! (or even to have my registration on file for any future issues with regards to this)
I'll let you know how I get on.

You've been taken for a ride if you've paid anything after having bought the car only 6weeks ago from a garage.

The warranty shouldn't even have to be considered at this stage, your consumer rights protect you instead.

Update

Total hats off to SEAT,

As SEAT Customer Care promised, the last jigsaw piece was placed today:

1. ALL Injectors now replaced FOC.
2. Wiring Loom replaced FOC.
3. Written confirmation from SEAT that Injectors replaced with new latest revised parts & covered by SEATs Two Years Parts Warranty.
4. Second written confirmation from SEAT that Wiring Loom also replaced with new latest revised parts & also covered by SEATs Two Years Parts Warranty.
5. Final piece, received Credit for first failed Injector parts cost.

More than happy to keep the car & keep driving it as before, brand faith restored

Good for you paulfs. I sent 3 complaints to Seat Spain more than 2 months ago, after i had my 1st bad experience with injector no.2 and i`m still waiting for some answers and conclusions from them. So, you are a lucky one

hi guys after having injector no 3 go on my fr paid just under £800 for injector & loom to be replaced after one call to seat uk they agreed to reimburse £645 plus replace remaining 3 injectors, since the work was done the engine speed seems to vary when ideling (sometimes quite noisy) has anybody else had this experience or have any idea what might be the cause.

Great result paulfs. I had two injectors go within six months of one another. After emailing SEAT to complain about the costs etc they refunded me the full monies. Though they've not replaced the other two so I am praying they don't go too!

Maybe changing for a Common Rail FR soon so should not have same problems again I was told.

Had a letter from SEAT today confirming all changed and covered with 2yr warrenty, will say it again pleased with how they have handled issue once notified of failure.

Reading with much interest as I own an 07 FR TDI 170PD (25k miles).

I've not had any failure, but had some interesting behavior (mentioned in another thread I've started).

My question is, should I be doing anything to mitigate potential failure, or is it pot luck as to whether it'll happen or not?

Dear SCN colleagues. After more than 2 months i received an answer fron Seat Spain. They will not refund me any money because the vehicle warranty period had been surpassed.
I asked them why in other European countries, SEAT are replacing the faulty injector free of charge and why there hasn't been a safety recall on this problem?
And here is their response:
Point out that Seat Spain does not recognize this global feature that you tell us, which prevents us from providing the collaboration that you request
I also wrote them, I do not accept to play with my life and with other traffic participants lifes.
And here is their answer:
On the other hand we appreciate that you inform us about your experience, because all views and informations of our customers help us to obtain a greater understanding of the services provided and to improve them.

I wrote to VOSA. No answer.

My 07 Leon FR TDI 53k broke down yesterday. Car cut out on the motorway at 80 MPH. Did well not to get wiped out by a truck as I limped onto the hard shoulder!

Sounded to me like an injector after reading some stuff on here yesterday. AA were clueless, no fault code found on his comms. I spent a few hours reading through other members experiences last night and decided to get the car towed to my local seat dealer (barlows in wolverhampton). They called me this afternoon and it turns out its injector number 4. The loom is knackered to so after diagnostics the bill is getting close to a grand! Thankfully despite the fact the car is over 12 months out of warranty, seat are agreeing to pay for the lot!

If your determined to get seat to foot the bill id reccomend you lay it on thick! tell them your car broke down at speed. Making an emergency stop with no brake assistance and power steering on a motorway is frightening! Guy at barlows told me that customer service wont cough up if your car hasnt got much main dealer service history. Mine has part main dealer, part local specialist (midland vw - very good btw)

Overall im quite suprised that seat coughed up so easily. Im also impressed by the level of service i've received so far. This aside, its not acceptable for this kind of problem to arise on car of its age or mileage. Im a VAG guy through and through but this has opened my eyes a little bit.

Hi marky_b. I`m also a VAG guy. I never had such problems with older VAG cars. My car also broke down at speed on the highway. 120-130 km/h. My last 2 maintenance services were made at a private garage. The others, only Seat Dealers.

Hi, I have red your post on INJECTORS and I am really interested in how did you manage to get them fixed for free?

What did you tell to SEAT center? Where do you live?

Since i am living in Lithuania and SEAT is not that popular here, so it's a problem to find someone with the same bad experience...

I have #4 and #1 injectors broken, and #2,#3 demaged

Not so good, as it costs 2k for new ones

This thread has saved me a grand. thanks. My car is currently with and independant garage who collected it on Tuesday night. He reckons it is the Injector and after reading the forum i had came to the decision that im going to have to pay a grand to fix an 06 leon 170 fr with 45k on the clock. I decided to phone SEAT an hour ago and they have booked me into my local SEAT dealership and will pay all costs under there goodwill process. I asked if this was a common fault and was told no(obviously a lie). I was told the engine parts are meant to last for life and thats why they will cover all costs. Its my bday aswell today so think i will go and get drunk

I wondered if anyone on here who had their injectors fail had any non-standard modifications done to their cars at any point before the failure?

So for example have any of you guys had a ECU Re-map for increased BHP or things like uprated Koni/Eibach suspension etc.

I'm basically just interested if SEAT UK would still pay you the 100% cost of the Injector repairs if they knew you had any modifications like Re-Map or suspension etc?

My FR170 57 Reg with 29k miles hasn't yet had the injectors fail.. (yet!)

And I do have a full SEAT Service history, but I am considering uprating my suspension and getting a re-map soon... so i'm now a little concerned as to weather to go ahead with these upgrades or not.

Any answers would be much appreciated guys! Thanks.
