I have read page one and I’m sure it is easy, I’m just frankly not a very confident diyer.

When I get round to doing it I’ll probably facepalm at how easy it actually is lol. Oh well

Does anyone have a similar situation to this...
Open the front doors and a loads water pours out from the sill. This usually prevents it dripping into the front footwells whilst driving.
Open the back doors and only a little water on the sills, but the back footwells are already soaked.
The front footwells don't get wet unless I drive and the motion forces it in. But the back ones seem to get wet whilst parked. The side of the interior under the door is dry but the footwells wet.... Is this definately how the back ones get wet, with it pouring in over the sill... I would expect the sides to be wet also

Maybe because the water as already spilt over the sill ;)

Ha. Was waiting for someone to say this... I have thought the same but would expect the sides to be wet. Someone mentioned putting talc down to see where it leaks from. I may give this a go

Need to do mine pretty sharpish. Now i've only read the guide on the 1st page and not all the subsiquent pages, what tips do people have for getting up the carpet and drying out the car?

In the past on my E30's i've used massive bags full of silicone crystals but they've not had to dry up a soaked carpet.

This is the stage i'm at now. Anyone know the best way to dry out the soaking wet underlay sponge stuff?

All the info is in this thread on what to do seriously don't make it harder than it is.
The carrier panel is bolted on you remove them all except the two at the top which you just loosen.
This gives enough clearance to re-new the cord or sealant whichever route you take.

It's that easy.

Lee's write. The first post covers everything!

Silicone or VAG cord?

Ahdoo all.

Long time no post etc.

Been looking at this, as had some minor condensation issues and got a wet foot the other day when opening the rear drivers side door:(

Cant say I can feel any moisture in the carpets but spose it's best to get it done in advance of a flood!

Anyway, question is, should I use silicone or the VAG cord?

How long has the silicone lasted you if you've done it properly and loosened the carrier panel rather than sealing round the outside of it?

Re the cord, what section is it? Reason I ask is I've seen some stuff on ebay which I reckon would do the same thing and it's 8m long by 6mm across on a roll, at a fraction of the cost!

Thanks in advance for your help:)

Hiya mate.

Yeah, we were after the cross section dimensions in mm.

i.e. if it's rectangular in section, how wide is it edge to edge and how thick is it adhesive side to the other face?

Or if it's circular the diameter :)

Cheers

Gotta put little un to bed in a min will get some measurements after dinner but it's not rubber , it's like a goo/gunk/putty! If that makes sense , so that when it is compressed it will spread out!
