So looks like its possible.

Have read stuff such as, "made my stage 2 plus car feel like a micra".

Who will be the first?

Id better hurry and get to 500hp otherwise k04s will be beating me again :cry:

Where are the facts around this?

Personally, not sure I would chance that on a standard engine. In addition, you would never sell the car on at market value in that state unless you sold it to an enthusiast, and even then, you would never ever get any money back for all the £££'s it would cost to get it there unless you went to the trouble of swapping back on a K04 and having the ECU flashed back to stock when selling up.

He was comparing a manual S2+ S3 to a DSG Hybrid ED30 though Jas. Mine feels (and is) quite a bit quicker than my mates S2+ S3 to be fair after driving it recently. So imagine the difference with a hybrid bolted on too?

That is true, was out in waynes stage 2 plus k1 and boy it reminds me of how rapid those cars feel and third and fourth is very impressive. The quattro really does make things to civilised, and I think a s3 would actually bore me. The Ttrs is fun In stock form bombing round the twisties but cannot match the k1 in the straight lines. With a map it gets much better and is a kicker car with a might shove in the back of te seat feeling but still doesn't feel as much as an animal as my old k1. I think I won't get that beast feeling from a 4wd car till I'm 500+ hp, hopefully it won't be too long from now.


Al I think for the money you can't go wrong, modding a car shouldn't be done with the thought of recouping costs it's about the enjoyment and you have to pay to play. For the money you spend to get a true 380hp from the Cupra would require you spending another 20k atleast if you wanted that sort of hp straight out the box.

where are you getting this info from Pov?? So stage 2+ is everything on a standard K04 turbo?

Is the hybrid stage 3 then??

What power over a stanadard k04 are they making, an extra 40bhp give or take?

I've been debating for a while what i'll change to when the time comes to sell the FR and an S3 was on the list but after reading that you think one would bore you, i'm not so sure :(

I don't have the hard facts on this, but a while back, there was a hybrid turbo K04 being installed on a few 2.0T's over on www.mk5golfgti.co.uk.

Assuming this is the same hybrid turbo, as I recall, the turbo itself needed to be in near perfect condition for the hybridisation to be performed, but it would not be known what condition the turbo was in until it was cracked open. Pretty sure the price to hybridise the OEM turbo was around £1k plus removal and refitting. In addition, uprated injectors (RS4 ones I think) were needed as well as a different map.

Add the labour for the injector/turbo fitment then the extra cash for the map together and you are getting to approx £2k assuming you have no turbo issues. And that assumes you have all the supporting hardware like exhaust, intercooler, intake, fuel pump.

There is no way an OEM K04 would flow enough air to make 420bhp, but even if it did, head gaskets failures, piston ring issues and the usual valve issues etc have been known on several highly tuned K04 cars. A hybrid turbo, without uprated gaskets, rods and pistons etc running a severe map would probably result in reasonable bills sooner rather than later.

We will soon see. There are now 3 different tuners in the uk doing development work on a hybrid k04 and try are all doing things slightly different. I think what we will most likely see is cars with a true 380hp for everyday running, and 400hp with more aggressive settings.

The hybrid process is between 700 to 1k and apparently some companies can actually work with knackered turbos contrary to what al and I have read in the past. It's early days still, but let's not forget how 2 years ago people where saying 330hp is theax you would get from a k04 2.0tfsi

All 3 tuners seem to also want to backup dyno figures with 1/4 times so sit tight.

Al aren't you going to be modding yours at all?

I would be interested in 1/4 mile times and more importantly, terminal speeds which is a better indicator of ultimate power. JonnyC and I both made it past 115mph on a stock turbo (Leon Cupra and Ed30DSG), so if the hyrbid is genuinely 10% more powerful, I would estimate 117mph terminals based on approx 110-112 from 330bhp ish.

This car I have will stay standard I think Jason, yes. Its magic as standard, and I love the lack of wheelspin. Sure, its as slow as hell, but it drives really well although when pushing on, the suspension is wallowy - nothing some decent struts and springs would'nt sort out.

With that being said, I still have everything that came off the old one, so could technically get a diffed 12 second 1/4 mile car with sorted handling from standard over the space of a weekend :cartman:

i went to see a kid who owns stattlers in sheffield at the weekend and hes got an edition 30 with a giac map and a hybrid k04 i think and its running at 420

A Stage 2+ car at Pod will make about 112-113mph terminals in road trim at most IMO Al. Yours and JC's weren't quite road trim when doing your best times to be fair ;)
As you guys have said though, until these Hybrid cars are at a RR meet or a 1/4 shoot out with others to compare, it's hard to say the exact gains that are achievable. Tuners can (and most probably will) big up their own conversions, so hard to say at the min. But I for one am very keen to see the results.. :funk:

What do you reckon your looking at cost wise to get another 40 - 50bhp on a hybrid?.

£2k minimum, but probably closer to £3k assuming no/few issues. I am interested to see if this gain is genuine though. Not sure how hybridisation which supposedly gave little/no gains only a year ago can give such good gains now.

Also, having logged a car with the GIAC Extreme code for a K04 turbo, its definitely not a choice I would make for software to support the hardware.

if your genuinley looking at 400hp on a hybrid k04, the GT28 conversion really does seem pretty pointless...
