DIY Short shift

6 speed too - just had a go at it tonight on my LCR but changed it back after a test drive. Very short throw but horribly notchy on mine. Others say it's fine on theirs.

Worth a try - takes about 30 mins and all you need is a drill , 10mm nut and bolt and a couple of washers.

As for notchy did you re-set the linkage afterwards?

Will look to do this at the weekend, weather permitting - did anyone reset the tension in the cable as per the Forge guide or have you just left as is.

Aye you need to reset it or the gears will be all notchy or wont even go in at all. Its easy to do as the forge guide describes.

No - didn't know about that Thanks may have another go over the weekend and see if I can reset the tensions to improve it. TBH even in standard position I've felt some notchyness so they may already need readjusting. I guess the cables can stretch over time or the gripping collars can slip slightly.

Just Reset mine as i didnt before, This is a must as i found it very notchy before and now it feels good.

One thing to add on the forge guide on the LCR anyway i founf when it says to lock the gear box you look a little further down and see what appears to be like a allen key sitting there that's your lock pin

Grat mate ill try to explain it lol

1# pop the clip off the top of the gear linkage and pull it off the original pin
2# lay the linkage head next to the original pin and use a pencil and draw within the circle of the linkage
3# move the linkage out of the way and then get a 8mm drill bit and drill down into the metal dont push to hard tho as its soft metal and you dont want to damage underneath and make a hole
4# USE THE FORGE GUIDE NOW
5# now you should be bolted down and go give it a try

Yep, I did mine on Sunday. The car feels like new!

I got my father-in-law to create a pin (using this diagramatic of a pin - we even did the tapping and threading of a screw thread.
