Missfire in wet conditions, what's going on P16684 and 87

Hi guys



I’ve still got Lucky the Leon J sadly a lot of her good looks are diminishing with age but she’s been solidly reliable all the way.

Please let me know what you think is going on here?

We were coming to the end of a 50 mile mixed drive in appalling weather with loads of surface water when suddenly I felt her hesitate, shortly followed by the yellow ignition light flashing on.

Went away and came back several times especially when I asked for extra power.

Scanned her with my reader to find the attached misfire error codes.



Today I took the plastic engine cover off and found my coil packs don’t look like I was expecting, mine have a very helpful little plastic loop to aid in withdrawal.

I took out cylinder three’s and cleaned out the socket and plug.

Put everything back and have just come back from a good run in which she behaved faultlessly.

Also, is this the distributer? (pic 7)

So what am I looking at here guys, feels like water related to me but if so what?

Just sounds like a dead or dying coil pack to me.

Well maybe, going for another test run tomorrow.
My worry is that the coil packs I see on line, even when I use my registration and genuine parts, they look nothing like what I have got

This is the AGN engine? I think there are different coils for pre and post 2000

OH thank you so much, I had not idea about the AGN, so it does not even have coil packs.
Those I posted are just connectors.
I'm guessing it has some kind of distributer and coil?
