Can you do this on the left to right aswel?

You can but you'd need to remove the pin before drilling the new hole, otherwise the cable end hits the pin before making it onto the bolt. :)

for what i see on that picture the right one is placed lower then usual ? can see the left over hole above the bolt

i think its a must!!! how do we take the left right linkage out, sure we cant drill the hole with it on the car!!! that clear any way!!!!!!!!!!

but this would not make you shift any quicker right ?

just the way the knob is going over the gears is shorter, because you cant shift faster then the gearbox wil let you ?

To get the left-right shifter link out, first remove the clip circled in red above (obviously after taking the cable end off the pin ;) ) DON'T LOSE THE CLIP!

I also unbolted the power steering hose from the gearbox mount ( circled in blue) - this let me then draw the gear linkage out of its position. There are two plastic bushes inside the lower pivot point on the gearbox for the linkage, I found it easier to remove the linkage by also removing the bush on the passenger side of the pivot point. This lets you rotate the linkage enough to clear the gearbox mount.

After cleaning up the linkage, I marked a point about 20mm down from where the original pin was - I found that any lower and the bolt head would then contact the bent section of the linkage and wouldn't sit flat.

The original pin was then drilled out from the flat side, starting with a small bit and working up. It is rivetted in to position but comes out easily enough by the time you get to a big-ish bit. :)
In hindsight I'd have just used a Dremel to cut back the pin flush with the surface :rolleyes:

After that it was just a case of using washers, a bolt and a locknut to secure things as planned.

**note that the side-to-side linkage uses an m8 size bolt and not an m10 like the front-to-back linkage**

Then it was just a case of regreasing the lower pivot pin and the bush, and then reinstalling. I also regreased the plastic guide that contacts the front-to-back linkage.

Power steering hose reattached to its mount next....

Last thing I did was reset the cables as already discussed earlier in the thread.

Simples!

We found that we didn't need a 3mm washer; instead using one 1.5mm washer.

I would've persuaded my father-in-law to make a handful of these pins but he found it rather tricky; his lathe isn't ideal for small precision items and his eyesight is not what it used to be. Having said that, the pin he made was great. I may ask him and see what he says. But if someone else makes some then that's cool too. Share the love an all that lol

I want to try this, looks easy by the sounds of things but I have a few questions.

As you can see on DannyC87's photo here, the original shifter "pins" have a sleeve on them, is this sleeve fixed or does it spin? I'm just thinking that when using bolts you aren't adding this sleeve back?!

Also I see some people have mentioned two nuts in this thread? Is this so the bolt is locked to each shifter, please see my rudimentary drawing below:
