ive modified quite a few members cars on here with short shifters.... just grind the pins out (fron the base then push them out) get them drilled and tapped and drill two new holes closer to the pivot. move the horizontal shifter pin 22mm and the vertical 11mm

We keep self colour metric and imperial screws in stock at work, but I'd rather use stainless or zinc plated, do you remember what size you tapped the holes?

Thanks!

ok... 22 and 11mm are dimensions from the centre and you need to grind the peened portion of the pin off from underneath not on top as shown in the pic above. once you have ground that down you can push it out. drill and tap it M6 then insert it back into your new holes. if you want to revert back to standard you can..... i dont know why you would though

Ah ok, so opposite face than I have marked.

I will get zinc plated or stainless screws and washers ordered today, and prob do it after work next week. Thanks for your help mate, I think it's a better alternative than just using a nut and bolt, even if it's a bit more involved.

By the way, I'm at Total Vag on the 17th if you're around

Howdy peeps! excellent thread.

Would this be the same for mk1 fr+? the linkage looks the same. Have thought about this mod for a while and heard some good reviews and how much of an improvement it is, even better that it can be done for couple of quid.

fif mine a couple of weeks back and loved it apart from it felt quite stiff, but a couple of weeks on and its "loosened" up nicely now :)

Mine was the same but the week after the bush in the linkage completely failed due to the added stress. Made a more robust bush out of some drop link rubbers and big washers!!

It can't tight the cable end needs to move, so if there is no thread where it sits on the bolt be fine, if that is what he means?

im not actually certain what he means if im honest... i will have to have a look with him... im going to haev a crack at mine at the weekend.

For clarification:

8mm
8mm nut
8mm washer
nyloc nut

how tight do you do it up? finger tight? or FT?
