EmDee's Mk2 Polo Coupe

If there is enough left to get grips on can't see it not undoing with mole grips

Getting the bolt out wasn't that much of an issue - I didnt have a new one to replace it with ;)

All sorted now anyway, wanna send a big thanks to Phil (Jackson Tuning) for sorting the sheared bolt and a new gasket (one that fits!) AND sorting an exhaust rattle while he was at it. What a guy! The car is just about at a place where I am happy with it and everything works. All I need to do now is roll the arches, I hit a bump yesterday on the way to Phils that took a HUGE amount of rubber off my NSF tyre - oops - next stop arch enemy.

Obligatory whorage:

Finally got the same wheels on all round now, no rubbage yet!

Well it was just a matter of time wasn't it...

After hitting a nasty bump i took a fair amount of rubber off the NSF tyre. The arch rolling man will be here later on today and I will post some pics and review the service. I didn't want to modify the car in a way that cannot be reversed, but I think this is for the best.

Finally managed to get the arches rolled today after taking some serious chunkage out of my NSF tyre over a particularly criminal bump. It's something I'd been wanting to do, but for a while I thought I could get away without doing it until I hit the aforementioned bump. Feeling like a bit of a ***** (one that has no arch rolling tools) I got someone else to do it for me. I called ArchEnemy and a top bloke by the name of Paul came round to mine and spent the day toiling in the sun.

Here are some pics, the first one is just for the purists who hate seeing a 30k mile mk2 polo getting chopped to pieces. Look at those lovely OEM arch covers and linings that have been hacked to bits :)

I was shocked to see a complete lack of rot under the plastic arch covers as they usually hide all sorts of nasty surprises.

And here's Paul sorting out one of the rear arches:

He did an excellent job, didn't flake any of the paint and sealed everything back up nicely. Having said that I will still be taking some hammerite sealant stuff to it in a few days just in case.

so here she is at the moment waiting for the sticky stuff to set:

20mm rear spacers are now on the way :funk:

Better pics of the work are in the pipeline if anyone's interested.

So after I had the arches done, I reversed off my parents driveway and as I was giving it a sweep I noticed a small puddle. Just as I feared, it was petrol. Anyone who has ever had one of these cars or knows about them can confirm that the tank and the tank feed pipe rot badly. I did check this when I bought the car and I thought there was a while left in it (wouldnt have been a deal breaker anyway) but there is a small leak right by the join.

I didn't get a shot of the leak itself but you get the idea.

So because PhilJ (Jackson Tuning) is a complete legend I knew he could do the job. I didn't fancy changing a petrol tank on my own in the street lol I would probably blow up the car.

Anyway I got Phil to order the tank and popped down there. While I had him working on it and ordering parts I got a pair of CV joints and boots too since they need doing.

Here is the new tank:

Shame that the special folk at euro car parts sent him the wrong tank and good job to Phil & co for checking before starting work!

Oh well, got the CVs and boots replaced and getting the new tank in on Monday thanks to Phil. The CVs made more of a difference than I thought, she drives quite a bit better, not just when on lock but just over bumps there's less rattleage

Hopefully I'll get my 20mm hubcentric alu spacers on Monday too because a buch of other "special folk" screwed that order up for me too! I've been told they got lost in the post and that they've sent out new ones so fingers crossed. Ebay can be a minefield sometimes so hopefully this works out. I've been waiting for about 20 days now after being told 5-7 days.

On a lighter note, I took some pics at Knebworth VW & Mini show last weekend so I thought I'd whoor them out a bit:

Thanks for the compliments guys

Minor hiccup..glad its all sorted mate!

 It wasn't sorted at all, the tank was the wrong one!

So here is the culprit, after we took the old tank out (waited for the new one first of course ;)) I could see the extent of the rot. To be honest it wasn't that bad, but it wasnt in a place that could be patched up easily and was leaking badly by the time the new tank came in.

here's the RIGHT new tank (looks the same as the wrong one to me)

and here is proof of it fitted (you can see some of the arch rollage in this shot too).

Also today I finally recieved my spacers after waiting nearly 20 days

and another ebay win showed up at the same time (only waited 1 day for these though)!

yeah baby, retro 70's Lucas fogs with covers. not sure how they'll look on the car i might have to trial fit them before I drill any holes in the bumper as it was a bit of an impulse buy
