Noise coming from suspension

hi guys..

had my FR a week now and as soon as i got it i noticed a high pitched sound when i got over a bump... its become more noticable over time.

it sounds like it is coming from the suspension or shocks but it sounds like it is more in the cockpit so dunno whether it is vibration iin the steering column...

maybe it could just be the suspension bedding in as it is a similar sound to what new springs make when they have just been fitted..

any one else know anything?

Hi,

what kind of sound is it? is it like a creaking sound?

not long after getting my SC i heard some creaing noises under acceleration in first gear and if i was going over speed bumps etc... sounded like it was coming from the suspension, i took it to the SEAT dealer and it needed new gearbox mounts (replaced under warranty of course)

hope this helps.

Cheers

Chris.

Could be the same issue that's blighting my ibiza, something squeaking in the steering column. it's like a constant squeak now over bumpy roads.
going in friday to get it looked at again (along with a few other things)

not yet, it's going back in on the 9th as they can't ifnd the source of the squeaks and rattles so they're having it for the whole day to get the dash off etc.

Car went in yesterday for an assortment of squeaks and rattles. They've apparently had the dash off to look for obvious causes but can find none so everythings been put back on and tightened.
the squeak form the sterring column they couldn't find, so they re-lubricated all the moving parts and sent me on my way.

When i got the car yesterday afternoon it was beautiful, especially after driving the ecomotive all day (which really is ridiculously efficient, over my run to work where i struggle to hit 30mpg, it was doing 45+, but it's se spec and the old engine and gearbox so it's noisy and the clutch is horrible, anyway, back OT...), not a squeak or rattle to be had and it felt tight and well put together, I was over the moon.

This morning though, the rattle form hte passenger side which i hadn't even noticed has come back, and more annoyingly, so has the steering wheel squeak.

Im going to video myself driving so the garage can hear all the squeaks . I don't think it helps that the roads round the dealership in barnsley are pretty good so don't bring out the squeaks til i get back on sheffield roads.
Cheeky bitch on reception also told me some noise is to be expected because it's a plastic trim, i bit my tongue rather than telling her "i know woman, and i know what are expected plastic noises and which make my car sound like it's ten years old and not 4 months old now shut it and get back to your random keyboard presses you always seem to be doing whenever i walk in, you don't want to talk to me when i come in so don't talk to me now"

On the plus side they didn't charge me the tenner for being covered on their insurance on the courtesy car.

can't quite figure out what it is, i'm suspecting that it's a combination of little rattles that make one big rattle.
May let my gf drive it at the weekend so i can prod about whilst it's actually rattling (knew she'd be useful outside of the house one day )

Hello

I have a creak/squeak comming from the front of the car when i pull away in first. Sounds like somone opening a creaky old house door really slowly.

ibizaSC-chris, did your car sound like an old creaky door opening really slowly.

Thanks

Richard

I have a squeek when going over bumps or uneven surfaces, it sounds like a loose bit of plastic but I have pressed everything & seems to make no difference - possibly in the door card or behind the dash in front of the driver.

Misus is convinced we have a small squeeky rodent smuggled in from spain :D Is this the sort of noise others are getting??

yep, behind the dash in front of the driver is where mine is coming from. I found in the early stages that pulling or pushing firmly on the steering wheel and holding said pressure alleviated the squeak although now nothing works and the dealer can't find the problem at all.

Night Flight...that sounds exactly the same squeek as mine, I was secretly hoping that with a little time the plastics might settle down & the squeek disapear - keep me posted if you find it :D

I'm going in to see my dealer next week as one of my headlight washers has sunk down, I'll mention it then & see what they say, I'll let you know if the rodent hunt pans out.

sunk down as in doesn't spray in the middle of the screen? yep mine does that too :(

I'm going to video the squeak and take it back to the dealers because the roads are much better round the dealers and i suspect they don't hear it because they don't drive it over rough roads.

I also think i've sussed out the cause of the door card rattling noise, i think it's the protective grill over the speakers, press down (or get someone to) when driving and see if it stops.
