LED sidelights that WORK

What are the Mtec ones about Poverty ? Got a link ?

Was going to order some Nightbreakers as they've had pretty good reviews but am always up for trying something new ;)

basically they are meant to give the xenon look. The nightbreakers are a nice improvement over OEM but still very yellow compared to the mtec and led sidelights.

The mtec dipped beam bulbs should fix that. Will post some pics tomorrow.

Your either not impressed with the mTec's or your still out enjoying your new found night vision !?

Well they are better than the original ones from this thread, however my car still rejected the right sidelight one just like it did with the last pair. Basically the LEDs will work fine for 5 mins then the driver side one starts to flicker and just go out. So I have ditched them and bought a set of MTEC sidelight bulbs. Nearly as bright as the LED,s but without any hassle. Job done ;)

Are these the sidelights you have? - http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/mtec-m...per-white-501-w5w-bulbs-sidelights-p-369.html

Just the MTEC sidelights

MTEC sidelights with osram nightbreakers dipped beams. Oh and just so people know in reality the osram nightbreakers look really yellow and the mtecs not as blue, its just that my camera phone automatically adjusts the lighting.

Now with mtec sidelights, and one mtec cosmos blue 55w dipped bulb and one osram nightbreakers. Again be aware that my camera automatically adjusts and that the nightbreakers dont look such a lovely white at all, although they are a big improvement over stock.

And now 2 pics with a full mtec set. The passenger side however is a 100w bulb, whilst the driver side is 55w. The 100w one isnt roadlegal, but was interested to see what the difference was so bought both.

These bulbs are a massive improvement over the osram nightbreakers and oem. The car looks soooooo mch better now and vision has improved also. Looking at the car I cant tell a difference between the 55w and the 100w bulb, but whilst driving you can tell that the 100w bulb just brightnes up the floor more. Dont think the police would notice if you were running a 100w set permanently.

Anyway, get these bulbs and dont bother with HIDS ;)

They are 4500k lights, the factory xenons are a more crisp white than the mtec however you can get the mtecs with less of a blue tinge, will post up some pics of the clear white mtecs

So not being content that the DRL bulbs in my TT as they looked very 'Yellow' compared to my Xenon's I went on a mission to replace these with a closer match. Now it is not a huge problem as it would appear that the DRLs and the Xenons are never on at the same time. I have the Auto Pack so just leave the lights set to Auto, thus when it is light enough the DRLs are on, and when it gets dark the Xenons and Side Lights come on, with the DRLs going off.

So firstly here is the OEM Factory DRL, which is the P21 variety:

I ordered 2 types of MTEC replacements the Super White and the Chrome Super White. The latter are slightly more expensive but do not give off the Blue Tinge that the non-chromes do.

Below is the Super Whites on the left and factory on the right and as you can see a much better look IMO:

P21Ad1copy.jpg

However below shows the Super White on the Left again, with the Chrome Super White on the Right. Now there is a slight difference IMO but it is only slight:

I ended up staying with the Chrome Super Whites as a) whilst not too different I do prefer the light they emit, and b) when off they are not as noticeable and look more OEM.

Super White:

Chrome Super White:

The standard Super Whites do have a Blue Tinge to them, however this is only noticeable head on and with the car being quite low anyway so probably will never really be noticed:

Compare this to the Chrome Super Whites, which whilst still not perfect as they have a slight 'pearl' effect are an improvement to me:

Anyway I hope this may prove useful to anyone looking to upgrade the non LED DRL as these are not cheap especially not with the postage from Germany.

However if you do buy some I can say the Customer Service at Xenon White is excellent and as a result of this exercise I am selling the standard Super White's if anyone is interested.

Thanks and feel free to ask any questions, oh and nice touch Audi with the TT Logo on the DRL lense thingy!

This may be a stupid question but with those 100 watt bulbs.
Would they do any harm to the electrics if they were used all the time?

Ive just ordered them in 100w why will they fry the switch or the wiring? Cant see this happening to be honest.

the higher the power, the more current they draw. more current basically means more heat. it shouldnt matter to the switch as it'll switch through a relay, but the wiring will get hotter, but hot enough to fry.. i doubt it.
