Might being a bit dim but how home come this intake makes no use of the ram intake from the front grill?

The ideal design of intake has not been produced yet IMO.

Your right mhill the ramair intake is a great source of cool air as well as the foglight grill.

Is there an intake on the market that has the same maf-area as the stock air-box and utilises both sources of cool air? A modified BSH trueseal would make a good design but still has flaws. Im wondering when a manufacturer is going to tie all the best bits of the many designs together and create an intake worthy of the huge price tags some of them carry!!!

Apart from the small original intake opening, the only air coming in the front comes through the rad and i/c, not ideal! If you can route some fresh air in from around the foglight to the filter area it's much cooler....... The ITG heat shield may not look pretty, but it does a great job, keeps the filter in cooler air away from the engine bay, it works as I said when I tried mine on the dyno! It's not just the foglight air that comes in, the whole area under the filter is open to fresh air, just not ram-air........ The main objective is to reduce the air temps as this gives a denser charge

There seems to be some substantial gains from the ITG and i think its the best on the market at this moment. Just think there is a better design to be had.
The air pressure has a lot to do with how good an intake performs as well as temperature. If its in a low pressure area the engine will struggle to suck the air in. In a higher pressure spot (ram-air) the benefits will be greater.

Ram air tubing helps get air up from the foglight grill up to the filter. Not ITG but it all counts :)

High there: This is kind of strange. I have 'the same' car, but the 'grill' at the fog lights is closed. ( Europe car - Holland ). Did you have to remove the whole front to mount the tube ?

Mine is finally on, fitted earlier this evening with the generous help of my bro in law as usual. ;) Good to have someone mechanically experienced in the family because I'm not. I'm kind of like James May when it comes to working on the car, I'm very methodical very slow but also a little bit clueless like Clarkson, well maybe not entirely clueless, but just not overly confident in ones ability with a spanner. :D

Anyway back to the point, I'm sure you'd like to see a few pics of it fitted (see below), they were taken under artificial lights and on a compact so not the best shots. But I'll take some more at weekend with my Canon SLR.

We also fitted a Forge PCV kit in place of the BSH and Forge washer bottle but I'll post up separately on that tomorrow sometime.

My initial thoughts are that the ITG is probably the best kit currently available, but I would possibly say its two thirds there. The engineering is very good and my early feeling is the kit is providing a good lung full of dense air and the car has a great induction noise and is producing a lot of power. The slight letdown is the aesthetics of the foam heat-shield which though it may perform its function well I think a better solution could of been thought up and maybe it will in the future.

I'm going to get some ducting on Friday and route an air feed to it from the fog-lamp area too I think.

I've not driven it much yet other than a quick 10 minute blast round the block to make sure pipes etc were seated and tight and not about to pop off. Plus the weather turned a bit wet and I was mostly keeping it from spinning up the wheels. :whistle:

Looking forward to Saturday and the Awesome RR day, hopefully the results in comparison to my test run pre-ITG last month will show a healthy increase in power this weekend. We shall see? My Dbilas delivered around an 18hp increase so what will the ITG do. :think:

very clever!

Why not put a small bit of fabric mesh round the end of the tube - still get the cold air but will stop any rubbish coming up towards the filter - just an idea ;)

Leonneke the grill that came with my car was open as shown in the pics, I dont know if they were perhaps closed on earlier models. I reckon you could just order some "open" foglight grills from the dealers, cant imagine they would be too expensive. Didnt have to remove the front bumper, only took off the fog light grill and used a Dremel to cut away some of the plastic sections so the tubing would fit. Also had to turn the hooter slightly out the way.

What model do you have Leonneke? I've noticed that the pre 59 plate cupra with the standard front has open vents around the fog light. It appears SEAT have changed the front fog light surrounds on the latest model and all are filled in, hence unless changed cannot be used as currently being suggested.

I have a Leon Cupra model 1 P. In fact, it is the 310 Limited Edition. It was produced in the end of 2008. My car came on the road ( plates ) this year, 2009, in march. I think you call this the Leon MK II. Over here we call it the 1P or just Leon II.

But I just had a closer look. And now I have to appoligize. The grill at the fog lights in only closed at one side. The outer side is closed. The inner side is OPEN. So the problem is solved .............. Sorry for that. Did not have a good look the first time .... So it seems I can do the same mod. Without removing the front bumper !!! Thanks to all ..

there were 3 cupra's at awesome last saturday that had the itg, they all made impressive figures. i cant remember exactly but all 3 where 340bhp minimum, but they all had other mods.

it has been proven the itg gives gains over and above other currently available intakes.

Stock Airbox versus ITG intake on a Stg2 mapped car

Stage 2 APR Mapped Cupra (APR fuel pump, APR full 3" Exhaust and downpipe and APR Intercooler) running with its stock air-box and K&N panel filter.

Nice gain but that is a massive dip in torque at 4k i thought the fuel pump was ment to sort this out?

I agree with this. The peak should be 'downtuned' a little to get a more 'flowing' torque. The fuel-pump upgrade should give better results in that area ............
But the increase, only by the air-filter, is very, very impressive !!!
