Got the key cut, just another quick questions.

When programming the key to the car, eg: key in ignition, press lock etc... do you put the old remote key that you used all the time, or the spare key with no remote?

Also with the little chip out the spare this will now start the car no problem. I tried without the chip, and it fired up then died...little brown pant moment...

old remote key in the ignition, new flip key in door lock

the old non remote key will only lock/unlock the car, it will not run the engine. it will start and cut out when the imbolizer kicks in

I have my key now and I managed to get it working with the car, it locks and and unlocks the car no problem and it starts and runs no problem.
However... I now have a flashing key symbol that wasn't there before, what does this mean?
My original key is 5FA 007 680 433MHz, and the new flip key is HLO 1K0 959 753 G 434MHz, both are Hella Keys...

Any help would be great...

It's a 3 button...

The Top part of the key is "used" with a new blade, but the bottom part of the key with the buttons on it is box fresh.

and you've got a transponder in it?

does the manual say anything about flashing light - on my punto that meant the battery was dying in the key.

does your boot button work?

Didn't try the boot button yet, and the manual is at home - I'm at work
Won't be able to look that up till much later, tried search this thread for "flashing Key" and all other possible word combinations and the only results I get are for my own posts...
So I'm not sure if anyone else has had the same issue before, I don't have enough time to read all 67 pages either... as everytime I get into it the phone rings (I'm on the I.T. Helpdesk)...

right looked in my manual - the flashing key light indicates that your key is not authorised on the car - strange if it still starts and runs it fine

i would try re-coding the key with the immobiliser

Bizzare, know that if it wasn't authorised properly it would start but the immobiliser should cut it out after it starts, which it doesn't do, and it did lock and unlock the car.
If it all goes TU I'll just take the transponder out of the "dumb" key and pop it in.

you need the transponder out of the dumb key in the new one.... the blank transponder would need to be coded at seat

Right! Managed to do this at last, all working fine now, took me an hour to move the glass chip using a lighter and a small screwdriver to heat my way round it, and 15mins trying to get the key to flip in the correct direction again!

Does the boot button work on the new flip key?

Now have a blank bladed flip key courtesy of eBay, problem is that no-one will cut the key!!

Have tried Timpson's and a few independant locksmith's and they all tell me VAG dealers have to do it... Is there a cartel running in South West London or something?

I keep reading about people getting their keys cut by Timpson for £10, not the boy's around here though. Can anyone recommend somewhere in South West London that will happily cut a flip key for me?

Thanks!
