The part with the actual key blade is in 2 halfs. Take it apart (top and bottom come apart) and you'll see the slot for the trandsponder.

When you put it back together, put the key blade on the little knob, wind it round to coil the spring back up and snap the 2 bits back together

Ah!

Now when you say top and bottom come apart, how exactly should I do this?

I have a natural ability to break everything I touch. It was only five minutes ago that I completely shattered a pop-stud trying to remove the b-pillar trim :(

EDIT: Thought I'd found a way, and just ended up shattering the plastic around the blade :( Gonna have to buy a new top half now, but at least I can re-use the cut blade from my broken one.

I've had a read, but this is a very long thread...

Can you use the NON-REMOTE key and remove the transponder from that, and put it into the flip key? This will then give me 2 keys, both of which are remote.

I think the answer is yes - but I just wanted to confirm.
Thanks!

Just to follow my own post up (and probably kind of reply to Pabs), to open the top half of the flip key up, you will need to remove the Seat badge, to reveal a little screw, undo this, and there'll be a transponder shaped hole within.

As my key was already knackered, I scratched up the badge pretty bad trying to remove it, but I reckon a combination of hair-dryer on 'HOT', lots of thumb pressure and maybe a bit of brake cleaner would cause it to slide out nicely.

I now have done this for my MK4 Cupra, very easy thanks to the instructions earlier in the thread.

I used the transponder from my spare key, it wasn't glued in which was a bonus!

Dropped a bit of superglue into the new flip key remote (transponder would rattle around otherwise), placed transponder in there voila!

For everyones reference, the part number used was 1J0 959 753 DA

It is a 3 button one with the boot unlocker.

The hardest part of the job is winding the coil back for the spring! :)

Well I've got a 3 button keyfob now: 1J0 959 753 DA, on my 2004 (54) Ibiza Cupra.
Used the transponder from the spare key.

Boot unlock button doesn't seem to work on my car - but other 2 work fine. I have selective unlocking enabled (only drivers door unlocks with first press) but not sure if this makes any difference to the boot button or not.

Selective locking does make a difference to the boot opening mate. I have disabled it so that all doors/boot open with one click.

oohhh - so you're saying the boot button will/might work with selective unlocking switched off? :)

That'd mean I could then open the boot on it's own using the 3rd button when I need to get all my guitar equipment in there :D

EDIT: Checked over on Briskoda about similar issues, and they don't think it's related to selective unlocking, sounds like it depends on version of CCM. I'm not hugely fussed, but would be nice to get it to work if at all possible. Might try disabling it in vag-com temporarily to see if the button then starts to work.

you need vag-com to change it.
Apparently this won't make the 3rd button work though - at least according to many threads I've found so far. Still, if you want to give it a go - let me know how you get on!

To disable Selective Unlocking

Turn on ignition, start up VAG-COM

Go to "Select control module" from the main menu.
Select "46 - Central conv."
Click on "Recode - 07"
The number in at present will be a even number, add one to that number to make it an odd number then click "Do It".
Remove keys from ignition and lock the car - the next time you go to unlock pressing the unlock button will unlock everything.
