So the N75 is a basic electronic bost controler.

So questions, Dave have you had any problems with that manual boost controler saying there is a leak?

Does the engine not go mental with the N75 unpluged / not reading boost? or do you have to leave it in with the Manual?

The N75 is just a solenoid valve - that all ebc's have.

No - no leak because my mbc doesn't bleed boost! It has one pipe in and one pipe out. When it's closed, the boost pressure doesn't get past it. Whe it opens, the boost pressure acts on the actuator.

My N75 is still plugged in, so the ecu thinks it's controlling it. ;)

so when the required boost is met it lets boost to act on the actutor? how does it regulate it? If its set to 20 psi it will open at 20 psi then surly it does not let 20 psi hit the actuator?

at just over 21psi the pressure pushes the ball bearing of its seat and allows the pressure to then start building up on the actuator which then starts to open slightly, the turbo slows down and pressure drops down to 21psi at which point the ball bearing goes back on its seat.

if you had it on time lapse you'ld probably see the ball bearing bouncing of its seat like a nutter as its constantly open the actuator and then closing it again

I use This mbc from the same company.
I've tried both the Forge and Daves recommended mbc. The Forge is super quality but very progressive. The R spec one is crisper in operation and more finely tuned. For whatever reason the Forge unit starts to bleed boost almost straight away which for my purposes ain't good.
So thumbs up for the Rspec from me.

Re thinking about it, when its gets to 21 psi is it letting 1 psi on to the actuator?
just to really mangle your head on this topic, i run the mbc in parallel with my n75 valve as i find it gives smoothest boost control. For all boost levels up to the requested map values the n75 takes care of, for all overboost matters the mbc kicks in and minises spikes which will kill not only your rods but your clutch too.

This all makes sence now, i just had an image in my head of 21 psi slamming in to the actuator, but really it builds up as its bleeds past the MBC, all be it extreamly fast.



Popped another boost hose on the way to Hayleys :( Might need to come and see you Aaron!

What you think we can boost at Aaron with a MBC at the red line? At the mo i think we are at 18/19 PSI / 1.3 bar

worth bearing in mind that as you push the boost higher the back pressure inside the turbo will open the actuator from the inside so you might struggle to see more than 20psi.

I can't get more than 18psi at the red line due to this and thats on a hybrid

there has to be a small leak path else actuator will never close as the ball will act like a non return valve..

yup the pin size hole directly opposite the wastegate port. Shame you can't have a port there instead to feed it back in to the intake like the N75

Went round to Aarons house on Sunday to borrow his pipe flaring tool as i could not boost without popping a pipe, Once flared it was pressure tested up to 28PSI and it all held tight.

I got my new Nozzles from bill so no better time to run the DOT3 DOT4 and Snow 175CC nozzle in to a measuring jug. They both mist very well and to the naked eye i would say there is nothing in it between them.

Here are the actual readings,

Dot 3 = 180 - 190 cc/min
DOt 4 = 240 - 260 cc/min
Snow 175 = 190-200 cc/min

I put the DOT4 on the car as the calculator Dave pointed me towards and Johns 15% of you fule cc/min sugested 175 was not enough. I set the start PSI to 17 and the Full PSI to 22 so i was using as little as possible.

Took the car down the road and it felt stronger than it ever has. No CF's on the first logs but after running all the other logs ran for CF's again with the oil temp at 105c, start psi at 15 and there where some there. People who track these cars must run low setting!

Also has a play with what i can only belive to be a remap golf GTI, very fast!

I seem to be under requested boost up till 5500 RMP then im allways over, so maybe a MBC will help!

Logged intake and EGTs as well, Both looked good for a 22c day :)

Bit more playing with the start and full PSI dials to try and knock out the CF's and i think ill be ready for a Dyno.

Question @ everyone, how do you log? The more you log the hotter the engine gets, the worse the car runs... And logs are not real world senarios.

Also a question at you bigger turbo people, you flow more air and push in more fuel and run more power with no gain in CF's, is this all down to the fact you can flow more air at less pressure? Is it the boost thats amplifies CF's? Another question, if iv got 20 PSI in my inlet manifold, and so have you, how is more air going in to the engine when the valves open if your heads not ported?
