So basically you have got a used for 22k miles vf22 unrebuildable turbo for £100 which may well go pop as soon as you fit it as it might already be gone or on its way. How hard 22k miles was it? What car was it on for those 22k miles? Exhaust housing/wastegate cracked anywhere? You could have got a new and warrantied td05 16g for £500. Id put money on you having to get a new turbo at some stage.

Tig Art mani :wtf:  Difference between yours and HTC mani is that I believe HTC got his through JBS and so far JBS seem to be offering a warranty for them off their own back as Tig Art give nothing so if HTCs cracks he can get a new one free, when yours cracks its chuck it in the bin time.

Starting a BT build with effectively flawed parts

been there and got the T shirt as you know PJ...buy cheap buy twice (in relation to ATP products or actually just not going with the right parts in the first place) and if I was going down this route I would be sure to be buying new or reserviceable parts at least i.e. the turbo to be rebuilt by CRT (personally I know nothing about the VF22, but from what PJ says I would have avoided it)

Hence I bought a bran new K03s to minimise anything going wrong this time

I wish you all the best in this build Danny but if it was me I would be sure to be putting more money into the initial parts to insure the longevity of your build

best of luck:)

Nothing wrong with the vf range of turbos apart from they are not rebuildable which td series are and the td series are either the same price or slightly cheaper new. No reason to not use the td series imo. If I did it again and was going IHI I would for sure.

Well If it cracks it cracks...That doesnt bother me... il just bin it...

The VF22 has No cracks and was in storage for a few Months So it is mechanically sound...(He Works for Prosport)

Anyway If it does blow up il just get a new one...I can´´t see the harm in it

So when/if this vf22 goes you'll just bin it at and more cost replace it with what another vf22 or a td05? The turbo is the least of your problems with that Tig Art mani anyway tbh. Pretty much gone against all the advice from everybody in this thread. Hope it doesnt get too expensive for you as it seems money is something your trying not to spend which is not the way to do a bt set up or run it.

Well i went of HTC advice as he´s using the Type 2 manifold Which is the one i got of Beattie...

An how the hell can you comment on me not trying to spend money...ive spent nearly 800quid on Brand New 440cc Injectors,New Walbro Inline Fuel Pump,Brand New Manifold,Brand new IE Rods & wrist Pins,New Bottom End shims, gaskets ect...And im not even finished yet..

and ive onñy bought a 2nd hand Vf22 p20...isnt it the same case with buyin a 2nd hand k03s..

Im Just gettin a Price on a AFR gauge setup from BDMS and Im gonna have to look in too a Exhaust temp gauge setup..
As il need these when i get my Downpipe made up...JBS seems the Best(price) so far....

Il only be running 1.2bar(peak) of boost so i dont kill it as you´d know running loads of boost kills the Vf due to heat..

Another reason i went for the Manifold is that 1 it was brand new and was very cheap and too theres a fair few on running them on Mk4 golfs without any problems...

I know a AFR setup is around the 200 mark but i have no idea about the exhaust temp setup...

personally if I was you Danny, I would get the downpipe made up from Bill, regardless of price....it is the after service that you pay the extra money for....

also what do you mean in regards to killing the the VF if it is running more than 1.2bar of boost? does it not like high amounts of boost? I dont know anything about this turbo, so interesting to know

also is the turbo going to be reconditioned or are you just bolting it on as it is?

the only things that bother me is - why was the mani and turbo so cheap? I know they say to never look a good deal in the face, but often enough you see people cut corners with this sort of power and soon enough down the line something breaks:(

not bashing you at all mate, juts some concerns IMO:)

HTC got his mani from JBS though didnt he so they will cover any problems? As Bill said the fab process by Tig Art is fundamentally flawed and not best practice hence all the problems everyone is hearing about on this forum let alone outside of it. It doesnt matter if it fails after 500 or 5000 miles if it fails its going to cost you. Stick your finger down the inside one of the runners and feel the weld between the sections if you can reach it, that might show you why its not good. MK4 golfs have more space for the mani remember and less heat issues.

If you are not bothered about spending money then why have you made such a big point about how cheap you got the turbo and mani and the cheapest palces to get things and high cost of others etc. My view on going bt is do it once, do it right and imo some of the parts you are starting with are a poor choice with what else is on offer. I have been through this process myself remember.

A second hand turbo is a second hand turbo but bt is more highly strung than a k03s and generally more costly if theres something wrong with it or to change if it goes.

Go for the VEMS set up. I know Backdraft and Bill can both supply these. It has both afr and egt in the one gauge and is a nice little set up. You can log and pull data from it aswell.

Dp wise talk to Pipeworx and Blueflame aswell. Im sure they both do IHI dp. If JBS make their dp what warranty does it come with. Aslong as their process for manufacture is full penetration and back purged you can go too wrong.

A 1.4bar spike then holding 1.2bar will be a nice 300bhp maybe abit more. Mine was a 1.6bar spike holding 1.3bar and was about 330ish bhp. Nearer the limit but fuelling and egts were always at a good level. Ran fine for over 10k like this with no smoke or nasty noises and turbo was fine when I last had it checked. Was very well looked after which you have to do with bt as just treating it like its fitted and will work with the same care as a k03 is a fast way to kill it.

Yeah i tottally understand about the manifold But it was my dision...Which il have to live with...

Tbh the price i got the Vf22 seems to be the standard rate you pay for them...I know my self i got a gooden and woundñt mind a Healh 330bhp on the Vf22...

I havent even ask bill about a manifold tbh the thought didnt cross my mind...

So VEMs do a 2in1 gauge for EGT & AFR that very intresting indeed. Will read up on them when i get back....

Il be back later gonna go a sun bath ¨D

VEMS only afr gauge has the egt built in. All in one gauge I would say its the best option. There are quite a few people on here that have had them and praised them now. Mine never put a foot wrong.

I really didnt no that

gonna look in to VEMs then as seems as you said loads of people rate them lol

Im reading on Scoobynet that the Vf22 with p20 housing can produce 400bhp surely thats a complete lair....It seems its abit laggier than the vf23 but spools up 300rpm later than the vf23 but pulls to the redline...

Also My rods in my engine are defo 20mm wrist pins Correct AQX engine
