Pistons are only being done if need be as it's probably never going to be running enough power to warrant them, shells, bearing, belts, gaskets etc will all get renewed

Depends how much money Martin wants to spend as to what else gets replaced/upgraded ;)

I haven't updated in a while so here's a bit of what's been going on over the past month or so!

The engine is out, stripped and the block is on the stand, ready to be cleaned and painted at the weekend.

I've removed my window tints as they were starting to peel and let the car down.

I've also nearly finished chopping up my front bumper to get a bit more air to the FMIC. I still need to smooth the cuts off then add mesh to the back but it's getting there!

The small battery has been ditched and will be replaced with something a bit bigger. Just got to decide where to mount it.

I've got some Intergrated Engineering forged rods on the way in the post, all parts to rebuild the engine are slowly getting ordered, and my gearbox will be going in to get the Quaife diff fitted on Monday!

Also got a Revo Stage 2 mapped ECU sorted thanks to Benny, and will be ordering a K03s from Backdraft when I next get paid!

Liking the bumper.... don't know if it would benfit my car too much tho guess any cooling is wanted for track. But ideal when you have a intercooler behind it.

Loving the seats and I didn't know you had the engine is pieces till I jusr read this.... I can see there are more plans in the future then with the uprated bits going in :)

Cheers Dave. I initially did it for looks, but then realised it would benefit when on track.

The car was smoking from the exhaust, and using a lot of oil. At first we thought it was the turbo but we changed it and it still happened. After getting it stripped down, the bores were scored in no.1 and 4 so realised that was the problem.

Eventually it will get a bigger turbo, so it makes sense to uprate the rods now to save stripping the engine again. I'll be happy with the K03s and the diff for now though :)

If your buying a new K03s could you not find something a bit bigger?

I could, but then it would be an extra £250+ for the turbo, the i'd have to replace the injectors, fuel pump, get a high flow manifold, and spend £700+ on a re-map that i can't afford right now. I was considering getting a hybrid K03 from Backdraft but i can't afford it right now.

If worst comes to the worst then i'll get a second hand K03s anyway.

Small update for today:

I painted the block over the weekend and stripped the head ready for a good clean and new stem seals.

I placed the bumper and grille on this morning and am happy with the results. I think i'm still going to bolt on the number plate then remove it for track days. Just need to mesh behind the cut outs now.

My gearbox was dropped off to get the diff fitted this afternoon. All seals are being replaced at the same time and i might even get a coat of paint when it's back.

And the courier company tried to deliver my rods but i wasn't home, so hopefully tomorrow along with my Revo Stage 2 ECU from Benny.

Cheers Sam, it finally feels like i'm getting somewhere now. I've wanted to chop the bumper like that for ages. It was a pain to do, and the holes are slightly bigger than i intended but i'm happy.

Hi Martin,

Instead of bolts, I found that three strips of velcro are plenty to hold a numberplate on. Perhaps that would be easier at the track than fiddling around with screws or bolts. It looks from the pictures like you'd have just enough room, too.

Cheers,

Anthony

PS, your old shocks are happy in their new copper home ;)

I had thought about velcro, but I knew of someone who used it on his plates before. He got pulled over for a vehicle check and the Police thought it was a bit suspicious due to ease of changing plates, and getting them stolen, so advised him to screw them on or use double sided tape. I was also thinking screwing it on would help hold the mesh on the back.

Glad you're happy with the shocks :)

ECU is here, just trying to track the rods. It's saying they attempted delivery but there was no card left so i'm a bit worried they've gone to the wrong place.

A massive thanks to Dave @ Integrated Engineering for supplying my rods at a brilliant price. Can hopefully get to work on the engine next week once the rest of my parts have arrived.

Also got a VEMs gauge to fill the hole in the Cupra R gauge pod.

My gearbox now has the diff fitted, and is painted waiting to be bolted on :)

I will be changing my front windows tomorrow, from tinted to standard now that i've got a battery connected to be able to drop the window slightly. I've gone back to a standard size battery and fitted it back under the bonnet for the time being.

More updates as they happen!

good news :)
need a wideband for mine i reckon so i can keep an eye on things...

3 1.8T mk2s on the site... 3 1.8T mk2s off the road STILL

I only got the VEMs as it was going cheap. I'm only going for a K03s at the moment, but it will be going hybrid at some point and it's always good to know what's going on.

Ben's is back on the road now! I think mine will be another month or two yet :(
