XX have repaired the 1.5mm tube that was in place, and nave now added a 3mm thick "wall" between the turbo flange and the collector. I have no idea if its gonna hold. And im certainly not the sort of person that will accept a rubbish excuse if it does fail again. I dont want to use turbo brace etc as this wont allow the manifold to 'move'. XX told me to use one with a rose joint, but they wont handle the heat and the ball race holders melt, pointless excerise IMO. My old S2 ran a thick steel manifold with a GT35/40 sat on it, no braces and the manifold NEVER split.

There is a moral to this story.............

im getting better. got the manifold off in 5 hours today. i wasnt rushing, and had a few breaks. if i rushed it may have been done in 4 hours.

2 sets of cracks also :(

also noticed that im still melting things on the bulkhead. so MORE heat protection to come

few pics of newly satin polished inlet mani. highly polished is soo done now. trying something a little different. plus its easier to maintain.

Dear oh dear! That crack on the collector is gonna be a common failure imo. As for ceramic coating stopping that, no chance. For what its worth, i would say it needs to be made from some thicker steel. Cant beleive how it glows white so fast. Are you sure your EGT's are in the 800's?? Its spilt cos the pipe has tried to move and it cant i reckon. Seen that before on other manifolds.

On a seprate note, that engine bay lokos the nuts, clearly a lot of hard work gone into that. Im afraid mine looks nothing like that! More function than anything else! Where did you get that posh tin foil you have been using? Does it burn? I have used that fire proof matting on the bulkhead, and i noticed that i have burnt areas of that so thought about doing something else to stop the dash melting :D

audiman. ive seen your car. like you said, more function than anything else lol

its not actually white. just a poor quality vid cam. only goes very red.

its pressed ali sheet. no gless fibre just sheet metal so it wont burn. it will melt if it gets hot enough tho

LOL, i have tidied it up since you saw it then. It now has a new wing! Where did you get the ali sheet from?

Lovely engine bay m8!!

Glows well.....mine was ceramic coated and wrapped which pushed EGT's up but after wrap was removed it runs much cooler.

Shame about the cracks....that's going to be a mother to resolve. I'd be pushing for a new manifold or a change in the construction / design to sort the problem especially after what you forked out....you need long term reliabilty otherwise it must take the wind out of your sails.

Bay looks noce hooch. 5 hours to remove is abit of a bitch especially if you have to do it again after this. You have abit of a catch 22 as if you get the mani coated then it will stop things melting around it but will push up egts and maybe make it crack again which will then be harder to repair if it would be repairable at all after coating. One thing you may have to ask yourself soon is at what stage are you going to look at another manifold if the one you have keeps failing?

thanks for all the positive comments about the bay people :D:D

ive already made the bracket steve to secure the charge pipe. sorted it today! thanks any how :D

pj. the egt wont be higher in the mani but they will be in the exhaust. if im correct in my thoughts the ceramic coating kinda pushes the heat else where, in turn reducing the actual mani temps.
also hepls with the hot col hot cold effects.
as for looking else where ive already emailed primary designs :D

Can't resist it....

Cracking Vid! :roflmao:

But seriously that's a very nice engine bay, clean and tidy without being too bling, very "engineered" I say.

Good luck sorting the mani.

From what Bill has said to me the exterior heat moves further down the system with a coated dp but with a mani where does it go. If it keeps the outside cooler with the coating the interior heat must go up surely as it keeps the outside cooler by keeping the heat in instead of letting it radiate through the metal.

Primary Designs would be the obvious choice as Bill sings their praises all be them expensive ones which is the issue really as you already have a manifold that you have paid alot for its just that its not upto scratch so what would you do about the money you have already spent?

Fair enough. Im sure you would probably do the same as most other people would put in your position. Hope you can get it sorted as it sounds like its the only thing unreliable about the car out of everything you have done.
