Your Fp Green had a td06h turbine wheel hence no surge as it is sized correctly to match the comp wheel same with the red.A 20g comp wheel with a td05h turbine is a mismatch as our good friend john banks said years ago.

my green was 7cm housing Ryan, red was 8cm, neither surged.
BUT mines big port, runs nice intake manifold, so "maybe" my increased flow potential is an additional +ve factor.

:)

not talking about the turbine housing bill i'm talking about the turbine wheel which is what the td06h refers too.I agree a 7cm seems enough for most.

that not laggy on 8cm?
killed a good 500-750rpm of spool when i ran the 8cm on the green cartridge.
on a 7cm it started spooling at 3200 and with the 8cm it spools at 3500rpm and that's with a largeport,nice intake mani and large throttlebody.

I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE EXHAUST HOUSING A/R,I'M TALKING ABOUT SIZE OF THE EXHAUST TURBINE WHEEL, IE: TD06H Turbine Wheel : Inducer Dia.: 67.3 mm Exducer
Dia.: 58.8 mm
TD05H Turbine wheel. Inducer Dia 55.9mm Exducer 49mm
Which do you have ?

If you have the td05h wheel then if you get the td06h wheel machined in you will see around 40bhp+ more.

all i know is that they fitted a larger 8cm hotside which i was told would make it a td06/20g.obviously not then:rolleyes:

on green i got 1bar at 3500rpm on its original 7cm housing,, went to >4k when it ran the 8cm one off the red.

different spec comp wheels tho. no surge ever

Steve it's surging because you are running a little exhaust/turbine wheel(td05h) and a large compressor wheel.....classic surge material.
The bigger housing will help a little but it's not that much bigger(7-8) so not a great deal of a improvment.
If you want to fix this problem you would be better getting a TD06H turbine wheel as it will free up the comp wheel to realise it's full potential.We have ran this exact turbo but in reverse/twin scroll format and it produces 460bhp flat out.
Lot of Misinformation in this thread.
TD05H = Exhaust/Turbine Wheel
20G= Compressor Wheel
7cm=a/r of exhaust housing

What your saying i think is that you bought a TD05H-20G 7cm turbo then fitted a 8cm housing which would help but not alot.What you need is the TD06H turbine wheel to see the full potential of the 20g wheel.

right ok i understand now,this would explain it maxing out at 400bhp as it's not a full td06/20g.i did wonder how mark gunns corrado was doing 460bhp when he had a td06/20g fitted:)i still have the td05 7cm housing so would it be best to get this fitted with the bigger turbine wheel or the 8cm one?

7cm should easily flow enough steve and be more responsive as bill has stated,i guess you would have to get the exhaust turbine wheel machined to fit,shouldn't be too expensive and you'll have to take the turbo off the car.It will basically be a FP Green without porting etc.Double check with your turbo builder to make sure that is 100% what they did.
