Can't see me using ATP again despite their offer, they've even renaged on it already, after I told them how much it cost to fix the turbo, they said they'd give me some discount but not $800 as that's what they sell the full GT2X kit to their resellers for!

Anyway ... still debating in my head what to do, either keep the improved GT2X (which is now stronger and more powerful, may make 300bhp) on the Tig-Art manifold, or go Backdraft and pay £2k off my card for the next year +.

For the Backdraft stuff I need (including their REVO map) plus the APR in-tank fuel pump, I'm looking at £3.5k. I reckon I could get around £1.5k for all my stuff, so I'm looking at £2k to pay off, which at 0% interest over 12 months would be £166 a month - quite alot of money really.

I've only JUST cleared all my cards and got them to zero after years - THAT'S what's stopping me from doing it right now.

Well well .. this is what ATP just said to me .............

"Eliminator 2 will be done soon. Your GT28R solution will be available to you finally in an even better form. Just want you to know we haven't forgotten about that either. If you elect to go that route, we will deduct the cost you just paid to have your turbo repaired."

would you hybrid the GT28R?;)

I am paying off my CC at the moment Rob, and its going to take a while, so i would strongly advise against it

personally I would stick with the GT2X, good unit and makes good power and now hopefully fully reliable

getting it back with the manifold will cost you hardly anything as its all ready to go and bolt straight back together;)

"more" is always tempting, but financially as you have a complete kit and are ready to go, it does not make sense

Why not yeah, CR Turbos only charged you £160 to upgrade a brand new turbo, so would be a great thing to do, especially if the turbo was bought directly off ATP for a discount!

Mind you, ATP said the Elim2 uses a new manifold which will lift the turbo up higher, so it's a whole new setup again - most likely turbo, manifold and DP or PI-style downpipe adapter!

They said they'll tell me more next week.

That's it in a nutshell really - I don't NEED more power, but if I save up and have the £3.5k ready as cash, I'd happily buy the BDM kit.

Once I've got the turbo and manifold back this week, I can refit it straight away and not worry about new downpipes, CAT's, injectors, maps.

You're right - more power isn't always a good thing, knowing my luck I'd fit the BDM kit then throw a rod through the block and destroy the engine!!!

I'm also very curious as to how this improved turbo will feel, the extra boost in power could be as much as I need, if it offers around the 300 mark then I'd be spending a fortune for 25bhp!

thats it really Rob:)

personally 280-300bhp on a FWD car on the road IMO is more than a weapon

and for that extra 25bhp as you stated, for the thousands it will cost IMO could never be justified. if you was going from a k03s to a BT kit, then maybe, but this is not the case

stick to it, and enjoy your new hybrid turbo mate:D

The best solution for you would be to ask ATP to supply you with a new manifold(once you have sent yours back) and another GT2x at cost (or near as dam it),then sell the new ATP stuff to recoup some costs back and then fit the CR Turbo/Tigart manifold.
Doing it this way you shouldn't be out of pocket and you will have a better set-up.

Then start saving for the bigger stuff over the next 18months just in time for summer 2010.

They won't do anything with the turbo as I've already had it repaired and upgraded, but looks like they'll give me a couple of hundred off an Eliminator 2 if I buy one. Manifold is being sent back so I'll have a new, revised design one to sell.

Turbo is back today, hopefully TIG-ART manifold will arrive any day now too.

I've got some self-locking copper K-nuts to use on the manifold, they are flanged with a 10mm head instead of 12mm, so alot easier to access. If Star had any brains they'd have used these on the ATP to make removal MUCH easier.

That turbo looks mint Rob. Your in a good position since whichever setup you go with it will be a good un. Maybe borrowing £2000 during this credit crunch isn't such a good thing. Whack the hybrid and the tigart on and enjoy the extra power. Even if you don't decide to keep it your RR figs should help sell the unique bundle. Oh and Rob it will make 300bhp you just have to set it up correctly. I assume your going to get your map adjusted no matter what setup you decide to go with.

nice pics Rob, looks good as new, like mine did :)

I today received my oil restrictor and the clips. I see from your picture that the clips just "clip" or push on I guess? see my pic and at the end of the actuator arm, you can see where the clip goes

see pic below for clips, easy to install right?

oil restrictor below. Do you just take the oil feed off and screw this in?

is it easy to do myself? as in oil wont piss everywhere?

Push the clip in yes, may need a screwdriver to push it home. Shouldn't get much oil from removing the feed line no.

on the oil restrictor Rob, does the more pointed end go into the turbo and the flat end goes onto the line?

Is that a rubber o ring I see on the face of that BSP P fitting??
Better hope its a high temperature one if its made up onto the turbo.
You'd be better with a copper crushable washer in there
