must be a copper or aluminium washer.. no rubber o ring on the planet will survive the temps on that housing

Not rubber no, it's the fitting that's been on there for 18 months, modified by CRT with a press-fit restricted insert.

Post office wanted £68 to send manifold back to USA, got it through Parcel2go for £41, collected on Monday.

Today, while I'm waiting on the new manifold, I thought I'd tackle a couple of jobs needing done. The hard water pipe that passes in front of the turbo inlet had been bent back by Star when fitting the GT2X. As a result of this, the pipe had a bad kink in it, which must have been affecting the coolant flow. So today I drained off the coolant and cut the pipe off.

I've removed all the old rubber hoses so after I've used some JB Weld to create a bead around the cut pipe, I'll fit new 19mm silicone hoses with a couple of 90 bends to aim the hoses around and away from the turbo inlet - job done right!

The oil return pipe was looking quite tatty as well, so I rubbed it down and gave it a couple of coats of VHT silver paint that I had in my shed, didn't have any black but it's down the back of the engine anyway so doesn't matter what colour it is!

Going to order some silicone hoses from Forge and get the cooling system back together. I also saw that the coolant return banjo has been leaking too, so will fix that before refilling the system.

Yep, bent it out the way to get the turbo inlet in, causing a huge kink in it! I'll get Craig (csd_19) to show you how Star got a 3" inlet to fit on his car when fitting a GTRS Elim!

I'm spending alot of time fixing faults from shoddy workmanship, at least I know it will all be done right once the car is back on the road.

2 bags of 12 copper K-nuts arrived this morning, beauty of these is a 10mm head rather than 12mm, easier to get spanners and sockets into them. Nord-lock washers on order too.

Well, well ... seems like someone has 'shopped me' to Star for bad-mouthing them (lol, kids), I've had an email from Jim today. Doesn't concern me one bit, because I have not lied about one single thing, nor have a made anything up just to get at them, all I speak is the truth. I'm scared of nobody and if the truth about a company sounds bad, then so be it, I think I've heard bad stories about every tuner out there, which doesn't instill much confidence in anyone. :thumbd:

BUT ... I am a 41-year old man with children who realises that a public forum is not the place to vent your anger and frustration about a situation, so from here on in I will be discussing my issues with Star in private with Jim. :censored:

This thread will now only contain updates about new hardware etc.

I think they bad mouthed themselves, to be honest Rob.

And in the case of any "dispute" that's ongoing (not specifically yours, I mean generally), companies should be given the opportunity to resolve issues before someone goes "public" on them, I certainly know that I would like the opportunity to correct any mistakes/issues before these things get out of proportion. Look at the oil restrictor comments that were made earlier in the week.

Then again; they had more than enough opportunity to get it right/sort it while they had your car (more than once IIRC), and they were certainly happy to take your money.

You haven't gone round the internet slagging them off at every opportunity (not that I know, anyway), you didn't make a huge issue out of it when you first posted; just mentioned it in a matter of fact way.

It always winds me up when companies are prepared to deal only in good news on the we. Live by the internet, die by the internet, I say.

There was a very high profile case that recently went to court where the judge decided that comments upon internet forums were not 'valid' for legal threats...

Rob, please drop me an email, because if they've been made I need to discuss with Z asap

No threats or anything like that, just an email saying he'd been told about this thread and is watching it now, he'd rather deal directly with me over any complaints I have rather that a public mud-slinging where any and all join in - which is fair enough BUT that's not what I'm like and people have a right to know about the bad stuff as well as the good stuff - I only ever tell it straight, no BS ever.

I've always praised companies for jobs well done, but likewise if ANY company lets me down then I'll say so.

Small update - got the metal epoxy today so made a nice bead around the end of the cut water pipe, ordered some silicone hoses from Forge to re-connect the engine to the bulkhead.

Decided in order to keep the costs down, not going to spend £260 on Zircotec coating, so instead spent £20 on 2 tins of matt black VHT ceramic paint. Going to paint the 3" alloy inlet pipe with this too.

Hopefully lots happening next week with the arrival of the Tig-Art manifold, Issam's density line mounts plus everything else to re-assemble my car and get it running again, better than ever I hope!!! :clap:

if its a bad company and people need telling, then a forum is the place for it, to let others know and for them to make their own informed decision

sounds like it is all coming together nicely Rob. I think the biggest surprise will be the engine mounts and the reduction in lift

I am thinking of doing that oil restrictor myself Rob, depending on if I can get to the turbo. Do you know if its easy to get to with the turbo on the car?

It'll be a PITA Jamie, its down the back of the engine between the bulkhead and engine. Might involve a bit of crawling about above/under the car
