Yes the manifold was revised and they produced what they said was a stronger design. ATP will replace mine but I have to send it back to the USA myself, as Star aren't interested in helping me, they've stopped dealing with ATP - so after years of being a loyal customer who spent alot of money with them ... that's the help you get.

and those who have said the ATP kit is shite.......... you now appreciate why.

glad you got it off Rob.. now make the right next decision and do it once and right m8.

Exactly what Awesome said......hence their decision not to market their kits!

Rob,

Bite the bullett and invest in a quality set up and keep it at sensible levels.

So how much do you think a hybrid GT2X is worth, had someone asking already! ;)

Bearing in mind a new GT2X was/is £1395, a new JBS04 is £1450. My stock GT2X made 281bhp, CR Turbos said "Should see a pleasant boost to the performance!!", so could well see 300 from this turbo.

My GT2X has been fully rebuilt with uprated seals, 360 degree bearings, machined internals, larger compressor, oil restrictor, etc., etc., and is now under CR Turbos warranty for 12 months. I'm thinking around £700? Too little, too much?

Tig-Art manifold was £420 to my door so I'll be looking for that straight back as it's brand new and warrantied too.

This is IF I decide to sell it all, still not 110% decided yet, Backdraft kit is still alot of money. Given the current economy I might not be able to sell my stuff!?!

er

That's typical especially after you gave them loads of PR on here and elsewhere......bet you can't believe it!

Glad I didn't go to Star after reading your posts prior to going to Jim at Awesome.....miles away from me in any case and looks like the backup at Star isn't up to much from your comments.

Star don't sell ATP stuff anymore, in fact they don't do ANY turbos for the 1.8T anymore, they sell a VF/GIAC 340bhp turbo kit for the 2.0TFSi, that's it I think.

Some track record though - 2 turbos and 1 manifold purchased, fitted and mapped by Star ............ both turbos blown and manifold cracked. [:@]

Yeah they just seem to swap suppliers around more times than I've had hot dinners then forget loyal customers who have previously spent large sums of cash.........that's the tuning industry for you!

First it was AmD for their software then APR and now GIAC it's whatever that is viable for their business but what they sometimes forget is customers like yourself who plugged them like crazy and probably got them aalot of business!

Update - turbo is on its way back to me from CR Turbos - GREAT company to deal with! Received ECS magnetic sump plug with copper washers and R8 oil cap from Awesome.

Rob

what is the advantage of the ECS Magnetic sump plug?

also without hijacking your thread, CR Turbos are making up the oil restrictor for me as I speak:clap:

I told you, great company to deal with;)

The magnet catches tiny metal particles that many be floating around in the oil via engine wear, if I'm changing the oil I might as well fit this, does no harm and doesn't cost much.

BTW - after I got the manifold off I could see that the coolant return banjo has been leaking too. Quality workmanship and products .... erm NOPE!

Yes CR Turbos are a top-notch company, excellent.

less than you'll be able to sell the new one for... I'd guess somewhere at about £20 - maybe a bit more

So youd have basicaly a brand new hybrid turbo and 2 new mani's to sell. I'm sure you'll get a good amount for them mate.

What does the mani weigh?

Well well .. this is what ATP just said to me .............

"Eliminator 2 will be done soon. Your GT28R solution will be available to you finally in an even better form. Just want you to know we haven't forgotten about that either. If you elect to go that route, we will deduct the cost you just paid to have your turbo repaired."
