Leon 110 TDI power loss

I've just bought a 52 plate Leon TDI 110. I've noticed that when I put my foot down the power seems to kick in and out intermitantly. Been reading some of the other postings and i guess it could be the turbo maf but was wondering why the power jumps in and out intermitantly? (kangaroo style). It seems to improve as the car warms up. Generally happens in 2nd gear or low revs in 3rd gear.

think i'll try to give the MAF a clean with some electrical contact fluid. Is it an easy procedure? are there any guides on here? There's a few pics of how to do it on mkIV forum on a golf tdi, i assume it's pretty much the same?

yep exactly the same, just unscrew it and clean. I took mine out put in a freezer bag put loads in and left over night to dry near a radiator then replaced, it didnt help my problem which was a faulty N18 but i have done the process none the less. or you can get a spray can of the isopropyl alcohol and spray it when out and let it dry.

seems to be fixed

I've been reading some of your threads on the dielectric grease mod.

I pulled the maf connector off last night to have a look but didn't apply any grease, stuck it back on and performance seemed a bit better by just doing that -

I got some grease from maplin today, applied it this avo and just taken it for a run straight after. It's totally worked!! Runs a lot smoother, the power is constant right through (well certainly in 2nd and 3rd-only just nipped it round town). I happy now that I haven't bought a duff car. It's hard to believe that a fix so easy can make such a difference!! Time will tell i guess if it's a permanent fix.

Mechanics must make so much money out of doing simple fixes like this!

Cheers guys!

Unfortunately the car's back to it's old self. I've got it booked in to get a diagnostic next Monday - but if there's no engine management light on can the diagnostic still show a error code? I thought management light on = error code, management light off = no error code.

I drove with the MAF unplugged and the power was really dead, even worse. I thought if it was a dodgy MAF then driving with it out would mean an instant improvement with the performance?

I cleaned the MAF aswel and it didn't seem to make any difference.

Any ideas??

You should still get an error even without the light.
MAF faults don't normally give a warning light (none that i've scanned faults on) they just let you know theres a problem by driving ****.
Shame you never filled in the location bit of your profile as someone with Vagcom might have offered to help and saved you some money.

I believe MAF trouble codes range from 17552 - 17554 and 17567. Problem codes range from P0100 - P0104.

I got a diagnostic today and it came out with a 17965 troube code P1557.

The discription for this is 'turbocharger pressure - control limit exceeded'. Possible problem, 'hose connection interchanged/not connected' ????

I got the vag com done in a garage and they said i need to send it to a specialist deisel garage due to their lack of experience with deisels.

Does anyone understand this? Is it just as simple as having a hose unconnected???

That's overboosting. So, probably disregard the "hoses interchanged", unless someone's been playing with the vacuum hoses. So, make sure all the vacuum hoses are connected and not damaged first. Cost nothing to check.

After that, you're into a faulty N75 valve or the turbo VNT mechanism seized.

ok. Excuse my ignorance, vacum hoses/turbo is where in the engine bay? Do I lift the plastic engine cover off?

OK, this may or may not help, it's a diagram and a picture that I have used in answering earlier questions.
