Apart from an exhaust, i want the make the engine sound less like a sewing machine. Whats the best solution, induction kit?? Please advise...

hello mate, my freind had a 1.4 and put a pipercross induction kit with cold air feed on it and it sounded really nice! the pipercross kit sits ontop of the intake and looks really cool as its not like the same old cone filter, this would be my choice (if i had a 1.4) he he

i'm running the green induction kit for the 1.4. Sounds very nice! and is good because only kicks in when flooring it or in high rpm

Nice1. Where would be the best place to get the green kit from and what could i expect to pay? Do i need to buy any piping? Where does the cold air feed fit? Any pics would be most useful! As you can tell im fairly clueless about modding engines...

with the green's one mate, it bolts straight on, i say bolts. You remove the rocker cover (spelling), which houses the air filter. Then the green filter will simply go over the intake hole at the back, quite a large bore size. jubilee clip it.

Then a breather filter which comes with the kit will jubilee clip to the breather hose (or vacuum can never remember which ones which, the left hand one anyway.

The breather or vacuum hose going from the top of the engine runs back to the filter itself.

The kit was around 75 from halfords came with everything. You will need to go up to the counter and special order though.

Gives a lovely sound as well!

Have an engine bay pic if you'd like...

if you mean cold air feed i put one in myself, but havent actually sorted it yet so its more in cos i couldnt be arsed to hang around.

Probably getting worse air feed actually and worse mpg.

yup. But that breather filter (the smaller one) will come with the kit, along with all the fittings and clips you could need

It should even come with a cheap bit of ducting to make a cold air feed, doesnt look pretty at all so i didnt use mine but will do the job

nah its for the specific car

Is your's the MPI? i used to work at halfords, just go up to the Ripspeed desk, and ask for them to order something from green's filters, they should just look down a list that has all years of ibizas etc. and mine was 99>02 1.4 MPI seat ibiza

Wont have a part number till mid this month mate im afraid, im pretty sure tho with my wierd memory its like P677 something like that lol.

If you dont buy it in the next two weeks let me know and ill do you a sound clip or something.

Will do mate, mine is the MPI i forgot to mention. Did u consider the K&N kits? They seem to be highly rated...?

no, i didnt give them the time of day once i had read up on them a bit. Plus green are the only company apart from pipercross :)blink:) that do one that goes straight on top of the air intake which gives a nicer sound i think. Also not entirely sure that K&N do a kit specifically for the 1.4, or they didn't when i was selling these things i dont think

Looking at older threads on here, it looks like i'd need to order the polo version (as its the same engine) so shouldn't be a prob. Only thing id be a little concerned about the green is sucking hot air from the engine as its mounted directly on top. I guess you need to give it a 'feeding tube' from the grill?

yer very true, cold air feed would certainly help, i might consider doing a heat shield for mine to cover top, bottom and left hand sides, and just have my feed coming in from the right. Shouldn't be a problem, but yes you are right hot air is an issue, will only affect mpg though i would've though to be honest
