theoretically it would have some effect on performance, but i doubt in actual fact it would as its only a 1.4, and as the standard airbox is fairly restrictive i wouldve thought that any gain in performance of adding the open cone, and warm air, just cancel each other out.

not that i know of, i might try and get one made at uni, but will, have to be done after xmas when ive got measurements.

If i can get it done i'm sure i can do 2 :D

if not just contact some sort of sheet metal company to make one

its probably not too difficult to knock one together im sure if your handy with tools! Im sure theres no noticeable effect with our lil engine, its only the sound i was after at the end of the day! My standard exhaust has a hole in now so also a good excuse to get a nice back box fitted! You done anything to urs?

yer the sound is great, and as one of the pipes (again not sure weather breather or vacuum) goes into the filter, produces a nice little wooosh sound occasionally lol!

Also it does make the car feel nippier, but im sure that "feel" is the right word to be honest

to the exhaust or generally? if exhaust you mean, hopefully just bought a powerflow catback system. Not after anything too loud and hopefully it wont be

ive managed to find an oval shape :D should suit the car perfectly as got a mate to do some photoshops

bought second hand, to be honest i know nothing at all about exhaust though, so putting my foot in the door, hopefully it will pay off.

If its that bad i will just have to sell it to someone with a saxo or something

What are u doing about your bumper in that case? Are u making a cut-out in your existing one or guna find a cupra bumper? Might have to put a post up in the wanted section...

I'm constantly looking for a rear cupra bumper in arctic grey but never seen a decent on come up. So going to try to do the cutout, and think of it as a temporary thing.

Mainly because the bumpers can come up fairly cheap, and i cant afford to have them colour coded at the moment :p

shame, there was one going on ebay for about £15 in arctic grey. Although they'd cut a section out for a tow-bar! :thumbd: Probly cost a silly amount to get sorted aswell!

Yer saw that one,and it was exactly the reason i didn't want it to be honest.

I if i can go a good enough cutout it shouldn't look too bad, looking the photoshop pics anyway.

On a different topic. did you get your side skirts colour coded?

I bought the skirts from an ex-member on here, after he totaled it head on into a brick wall from racing a Civic typeR, but he happened to have the same coloured car as me so i didnt need to spray them! I nearly bought the rear bumper off him aswell but it was a different bodykit on so a bit chav for me! Managed to get a cupra interior off it for £100!

ah rite, been messing around with pics and the difference between having just the skirts colour coded is unbelievable imo. I could do it myself but wouldnt get the colour matched. You know how much i'd be looking to pay for it to be done?

Nice cheaper than i got mine :( lol

Yeah its unreal how much difference sideskirts make! Id imagine youd be looking between £70-£100 to get them matched n sprayed if you find a deal!? I dont think youd have much of an issue with colour matching as youve a silver car... not something which fades jus gota make sure u get the paint from seat.

yer i probably will give it a go to be honest, done the handles, door trim (didnt realise it was removable) and wingmirrors, none of which look a completely different colour either. Think i will DIY it first and if its that bad, just get them stripped and redone professionally.

How did you get on doing the door handles/trims etc? Im thinking about doing mine aswell but keep thinking it might chip off and look awful especially the interior door handles. What did you use and have you coated them with anything protective?

got on fine, cant see them chipping off for a long time to be honest. i bought a clear lacquer which i should have used, but never gone round to it. That would stop the problem. So probably in a years or so time or maybe after winter if its bad, ill redo them. ill upload some pics when i'm back home so you can see what its like.

My interior door handles came scratched up (lucky me). so i bought a new set from the dealers. I think the only way of doing them properly would be to get them down to the bare black plastic, use a primer then the paint and then a lacquer.

To be honest there ain't much point in modifying a 1.4 too far... I have put some cheapo springs on mine, and a set of alloys.

I did have a Pipercross Viper induction kit, but because Pipercross don't make them specifically for the 1.4, I had to improvise by getting a reducing pipe to connect it to the air intake. I had that set up with a cold air feed that ran down that gap by the battery and then it sat nicely behind the fog light space filler.

Now I have taken the filter off and decided to go with the standard air box, with the cold air feed running to the original air intake (bottom left corner) but I took off that stupid little extention on it that restricts the amount of air allowed in.

I am thinking about drilling it to get the note it had with the Viper kit on it back, but haven't got round to looking at where to drill it (if anyone could tell me that would be great :D)

could take the airbox apart, and then i'm guessing it would be obvious where to drill. Although i wont say too much as i know nothing about drilling the airbox  lol

morning all, drilling your air box is very simple, i've been fiddling around with polo's for years before i got my cupra infact i've still got a mk2 coupe S a mk3 G40 and a mk4 1.4 runabout but they are all running veritions of the same engine you have. anyway for drilling the box just get a 20-25 mm hole saw and wack as many holes in the ''dirty'' side of the filter box as you can get in it, anywhere that looks big and flat enough to put a hole in drill it! also with regards to induction kit's i can recommend anything from green cotton as they have all worked for me, and also why go to halfruds and get ripped off when there are lot's of traders on the forum and most of them deal with all the majore airfilter manufactures, so they should be able to offer you a much better price, i know bill at badger 5 can supply most types of green filter, so he may be worth a look. and one last thing with exhausts, a de-cat and straight through centre section will give you a nice sound, but dont be tempted to in big on the bore, because you dont need it and it will just sound crap, a fully sorted G40 only need's a 2-2 1/2 inch system at most, i did run a group N rally side exit system on my mk4 and it was only mm's bigger than the standard system, but the gain was good from it and the sound was nice although it had no cat and very limited silencers so the law were not to fond of it! anyway hope that helps a bit.
