Normally I'd have gutted the whole old system out and run all the cables for a full install by now, but money and time is tight.

Changing the HU has made a hell of a difference to the sound in my LCR, and tbh the fronts don't sound all that shabby. I've got a spare set of pretty decent co-axs - is it worth swapping them but keeping the standard wiring?

I only ask 'cos it may be a couple of months before I'm in a position to do a full install and if it will make much difference as a stop gap - or should I just wait and do the whole shebang?

In a word - YES!

MDF speaker adaptor mounts, change the factory tweeters too.

Kenwood 6" mid and tweeter kits work well ( the tweeters are a direct push fit replacement)

Run fresh wiring through if you're going to amplify the speakers, then when you come to replace the car you can refit the original trash :)

In the short term, replacing the OEM driver units with your coax will make an improvement though

In a word... NO!

You have component speakers as standard, changing the main drivers for coxials will create a very messy, harsh sound and you'll lose all the benefits of a component speaker system.

Upgrading to components... YES!
Changing to coaxials... NO!

my fronts in the Ibiza are pretty good i must say, but then again I do have the upgraded "Alana" sound system in mine. The back ones are really bad though.
