The lads doing the conversion are keeping my old VR engne and box in payment for the labour, so it's costing me hardly anything.

Parts wise, it'll probably cost me £2500-£3000 by the time it's all finished.

bargain! you will have a good setup! my gtrs elim golf is with revo at the moment wonder what power i will hit after the tune :D

Yeah, setup should be quite effective.....for now!

Using a 16v gearbox, which has been rebuilt using a 3.3 TDi gearset, and Peloquin LSD.

Exhaust will be a full 3" bore single box side exit system.

Popped down to see Si and Paul today to catch up with the progress on the car. As said a couple of days ago, the new engine mounts have been made and the engine is now sitting in it's final place.

The new mounts have made it possible to gain valuble space between the turbo and the bulkhead.

I've taken a couple of pictures to update the thread.

The 16v gearbox has been fully rebuilt using a TDi gearset. The Peloquin diff is now built in with a new bolt kit. The box casing has been powdercoated to match the rest of the engine.

The engine is now in it's final place. TB has been test fitted to work out the cable route etc.

With using the new mounts it's allowed for more room at the bulkhead.

The new gearbox mount bracket. It'll be going off to the powdercoaters all with the other side and various other bits and pieces including the alternator, strut brace.

More pictures from last night.

Exhaust has now been made, DP fits around the brake server nicely.

Boost pipes have been made up, not happy with the top one but i'll get that redone when the cars up and running.

Next to do is the fuelling and wiring. Needs to be finished for the 13th Feb as it's booked into Emerald for mapping.

New rims were also test fitted, 9x16 front and 10x16 rears.

Are you going/will it be ready for Ultimate Dubs?

What size tyres ? :whistle:

It's booked in for mapping on the 13th Feb, and then off the the bodyshop on the 19th Feb for a full repaint, but the aim is to get it done for Ultimate Dubs.

It's not actually as close as it looks in the picture tbh. Heat wrap is on the list along with some form of heat tape/sleeving for the brake lines and servo.

It's coming along quite nicely now though.

Still on stock internals so i won't be going that high tbh, around the 330hp mark will do me fine until i can source a spare block to build up.

Yeah, brake pipes will be covered!

what angle is your oil drain? the cartidge in the picture looks sort of 20 degrees off vertical? (or is it just the picture)

I remember reading on vortex some guys installed their respective BT garretts with oil drain at too acute an angle, so oil drain was'nt good enough and they had bearing failure shortly afterwards, attributed to this.
thought I'd mention it thats all.

We're nearing d-day now, mapping on Tuesday.

The guys are on the home leg now. The brake lines have been moved out of the engine bay completely. The lines now run out of the bay along the scuttle panel were the ecu sits.

The fuel lines have been run, and the new adjustable pressure regulator with gauge is now plumbed in.

Battery is being relocated to the boot.

Wiring is complete and now it's just a case of adding the ecu and uploading the base map.

firewall heatshielding has a sound deadening in it, which ignites & smoulders when it gets hot.. (had it happen to me last year in a race)
I would advise more heatshielding behind turbo to bulkhead and servo too.
