Wing mirror query

I have a query about the old square shape door mirrors...

The casing appears to be made of two parts - the body-coloured upper shell, and the matt black lower shell.

I want to know if it's possible to buy a new lower shell anywhere? I can only seem to find it as part of a full mirror assembly (which is just shy of £80 from the local stealer).

The entire casing on my drivers door mirror got smashed to pieces by a BMW driver the other day , but the innards still seem to be functioning alright. As such I'd rather avoid the hassle/expense of replacing the whole lot of possible!

Cheers

What VW car uses the teardrop mirror though?

The square shaped mirrors are off the old golf so yes you would be able to source these through VW, but why would they stock leon teardrop mirrors?

I'm actually after the old shape mirrors (not the teardrop ones) - are these supplied in separate parts too?

When I spoke to the local SEAT garage, they told me that there were 3 parts - the main mirror mechanism (which includes the matt black lower plastic shell), the upper shell which needs painting to match the body, and the glass.

IIRC (I've got it written down somewhere), he quoted about £43 for the glass (heated), £23 for the unpainted upper shell, and about £76 for the main elecrtic folding mechanism. Another £55 for the painting...

I've just sourced the glass from fleabay for £14, so now I just need other bits, but if I can avoid it I don't want to buy the whole wing mirror mechanism as that part of my mirror still seems to work. I just need that lower black part of the case.

If it is possible to buy the lower shell separately (which is contrary to what i've been told elsewhere - I just thought I'd check here) does anyone have a part number?

you have the same shape mirrors as me
they are also shared with the mk4 golf, and we all know how many of them there are around

try VW, golf websites or breakers yards.

Are you sayin glass in Seat teardrop mirror will be same as mk5 glof? Hope so!

I asked this the other day and the consensus seemed to be they are slightly different shape. I pulled next to parked Golf GTI MK5 the other day and they seem slightly higher. However would need to pop the glass off and check the back also as the clips maybe different to the actual mirror body.

Hijack (Sorry) Has anyone got the part numbers for these (seen as though my Offside one is in little bits on a road near Wakefield)? Seat prices quoted above are spot on so sourcing from a VW, Skoda or Audi Dealer makes sense. As a starter I believe Mirror Glass (Heated and Blindspot) is 3B2 857 522
