Does anyone know if the mk2 mirror covers pop off like the old mk1's? Going to Vinyl wrap them and thought it might be easier in the kitchen as our garage is unaccessable.

Yes they do pop off, although be careful as I snapped a clip and had to glue it back on. Also the vinyls has to be cut right round the edge and not folded to the inside for it to fit back on.

Thanks, if that's the case then I will do it in situ. Just need to borrow some nice clean garage space as mine is a ----hole

Youbee,

You have to pop the glass mirrors out to access the retaining clips for the mirror covers.

Use the mirror positioning switch to point the mirrors slightly downwards & you'll be able to get a small flat head screwdriver behind the glass which will allow you to prise the glass off its mount.

Then you can see the clips retaining the mirror casings, use the screwdriver to prise the clips out (do it gently to avoid snapping the clips)

Refitting is reverse of removal & then push the glass back on its mounting....The glass is clipped in.

Don't attempt it without taking the glass out as you'll just snap the housing retaining clips off

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies. I think on the balence of everything I have heard I am going to do them in situ. It seems the best way and there are quite a few vidieos of it being done on Youtube apparently quite successfully. Just have to find a willing friend with a garage now as our garage doorway is full of old, non running moterbikes and a table-tennis table. :-(

I left mine in situ, but just prised the glass mirror out, do it that way & it's literally a 5 min job per side to do.

Leave the glass in & try to prise them off & you'll break all the clips and end up having to buy new wing mirror covers!.

The clips are different on the mk2 than the mk1.

Give me a couple of mins & ill post a pic up of the mirror covers from the inside

Here's a pic of a wing mirror cover from the inside.

Note the clip shape....unless you unclipped them from inside to release the 'hook' bit at the end then they'll just snap.....

Gloss black would look very good - I have gone for Carbon Fibre, cheesy but fun. Going to remove the black bit under the rear bumper and do that too. Just 2 screwws as far as I can tell.

Looking at the exploded diagrams on the Teilkatalog it does look like the mirror glass should come out first. Looking forward to having a go.
I think this thread is pretty much done, is it possible to ask the Adimins to close it?

To be fair mate, I got a set off eBay, painted in gloss piano black for about £35 delivered iirc.

There's an online eBay shop a guy can supply wing mirror covers for the mk2 FL in any colour you want.

I went for this & have my original red ones stored.

I tried wrapping the originals thinking it'd be easy after I wrapped my grille. But it was a pain in the ar$e

An easy way to get the mirror glass off is to thread a long cable tie around the back of it, means you are pulling from two edges rather than risking snapping the glass and damaging the surround by prising it on one edge with a screwdriver

I've had my o/s lenses out after the heater element gave up.. A bit of string either size and a good tug released it, but after that I needed a tiny torx bit to move the lense motor before accessing the clips for the cover
