When you press the lock door button twice...

What actually happens?

The dealer said it was deadlocking, but what does that actually mean???

Does it mean the doors are locked but the alarm isn't on? What is the security difference between pressing lock once and twice?

Yes i know I could look it up somewhere, but it's so much easier to ask on here when I'm sat bored at my desk all day... :bleh:

Well , deadlocks on a BMW at least are when you turn the key to lock the car and all the buttons go down. Now if you smash the window and pull the catch/button they will move without opening the door.

I get this with mine too. Deadlocks are like extra security, if they barrel the door they still cant get the door open, as it throws i presume like a rod or clasp across the door or lock to stop it from being opened .

But nowhere in my manual does it say the car comes with deadlocks, my mums Honda Jazz has them, and it makes direct reference to them in the manual. And you hear them engage when she double presses the keyfob, they sort of thud in the door.

You get a smiliar sound on the Leon, so maybe it does have them, but im not sure they do, I think its just the electric trying to lock the locks again, but as they are already locked it can't.

Need enlightenment really, what do other people think? or do you know better?

If you are talking about pressing the Door Locking button on the Remote twice, then it locks the car, but does not enable the interior volumetric alarms. On the second press, when the doors lock again, you should notice that the indicators don't flash, again showing that that alarm has not armed fully.

...I think...

The UK Seat site lists under Leon, Saftey and security as having:

"Remote central locking with deadlocks and selective opening driver’s door"

don't ask me how to operate them though  unless of course they're activated on locking everytime.

Now, I know in my old 1.6 Leon, pressing the key twice activates the deadlocks. HOwever, in the Cupra, I believe it keeps the doors locked but disables the alarm... I remember pressing the key twice once and the red light on the deivers door stopped flashing...

I think that is right

Hmmmmm - I'm confused - I thought pressing the remote twice disabled the alarm completly. The button down the side of the drivers chair disables the 'interior volumetric alarms (in case you leave a dog or something in the car), but leaves the other aspects on.

Could be wrong though.

I had a problem with my alarm going off all the time once and I could find no way of disabling it tried everything but still went off (dealer couldn't find a way either which is even more worrying!). So i'm not sure hitting the key fob twice does disbale the alarm.

Can someone go and try this now, i'm sure i pressed my key remote twice this morning and wouldn't want it to be disabling the alarm because of it. I'd rather you had to press the button on the bottom of the door first for this to happen. :(

Try it with the window down so you can replicate the window having been tanned , which should set the alarm off - if this isn't the case and it dfoesn't say in the handbook then Seat may have some explaining to do to insurance companies surely ?

Stoner,
I think you may be right - it disables the alarm completely. It is the little button that just disables the volumentric.

IIRC, when you press it twice, as well as the indicators not flashing, the led in the driver's door doesn't either...

Nope doesnt disable the alram, thats done by using the little switch inside the car on the main B pillar , down near the floor, the one loads of people come on here and say whats this button do one :D

I think CMC has cracked it, they do have deadlocks, though when you open the car, and press the lock once it only unlocks the drivers door, does on mine anyway, you need to press it twice for a full unlock with boot.

You can't alter the alarm from the fob to my knowledge, thats why they use the switch inside the car to disable the volumetrics.

Also as i understand it, it wouldnt get full Thatcham 1 approval if you can disable it fully on the fob. Even valet mode on expensive Clifford alarms keeps the system active to a degree and reenables itself the next time the car is started.

god as if i'm not paranoid enough about leaving my LCR out of sight....... so I have just been outside and tried it, everyone in the carpark looking at me as if I had 2 heads
1 press locks the door, red light flashes and alarm is active......
2nd press indeed sounds like some form of deadlocks being activated, still little red light flashes.... so I thought right i'll try this sitting in the car and so I lock myself in stay as still as possible, 2 presses and the car is locked and armed.... move about the alarm goes mental...
next attempt, down the drivers window, out the car, lock the car (remote pressed twice) give it 20 secs reach in try to open the door and it wont open whilst the alarm is going mental..... my opinion DEADLOCKS..!!!!!!

Right now I can sleep again tonight.....

LOL :D Opened a right can of worms here haven't I???

What I don't understand is why if deadlocks exist is there an option to lock the door without using them? Why don't they just engage automatically?

Oh, and I'm fairly sure that my indicators flash on both presses of the key fob... Humdy hum...

yip this is turning into a bit of a rging debate :p

Chunky, are you saying you need to hit the botton twice to arm the deadlocks? I find this odd as surely you would want them armed all the time wouldn't you?? so why would you want to hit it once and not arm them
