If I had spare 2K and an 8v Ibiza................then I'd go out and do my bike test and get a bike

Its silly to spend 2k on an 8v Ibiza, but even if you sell it and add your 2k then you probably only have 3.5k to play with, and whatever you get with that won't be amazingly much better then an 8v. So take that cash, book a Direct Access course and get your ass on a motorbike, you'll never look back (hopefully).

And if you are really against bikes, then sell the 8v, get a vr6 for 2.5k (won't be amazing condition) and spend the spare grand on the running costs (extra fuel it drinks and extra premium insurance will cost you).

But as you are driving in your 8v, stuck behind a line of slow moving traffic down a country road, think of me when a bike overtakes you, leant over, knee down in the corner, howling into the sunset

There's a lot to be said for 'better the devil you know', when it comes to the debate of doing a 1.8t into a mk2, or just buying a mk3. But then again you'll probably come across all sorts of niggles with a converted car, for a while anyway.

On a tangent, is there any way around the drive by wire on the 1.8t engines? I've been reading that the ECU cuts the throttle if you try to heel'n'toe.

i would have said turbocharge it, or supercharge, but i've spent £4k on mine, so maybe put the £2k in the bank and let the interest build up lol and come back when you have enough

alternatively, a lot of handling mods, coilies, ARBS, polybushes and some nice engine monds, High lift cams, stainless exhaust, air filter

Buying a proper performance car is the easiest thing about it. Its trying to run it that’s the hard part. You can pick up a GTS skyline or even a GTR and WRX for 4k these days, but its the 18mpg, 17" or 18" tyres, and REALLY expensive spares that will cripple you. Not mentioning they are insurance group 20, tax band as high as it gets really and usually serviced only by specialists .

So before you go and spend 4k on a performance car thinking you will be able to run it on same budget as your ickle Ibiza.....you wont.

But don't let that put you off, just do some realistic budgeting and planning before you part with your hard earned cash

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think everyone has valid points. I was in the middle of doing an update earlier about how reliable the lil cupra is lol, but then at 2pm today, it was being picked up on a recovery truck (talk about tempting fate lol). Looks like the gearbox mount snapped which in turn sheered the bolts of the driveshaft Just waiting to hear how much thats gonna cost me, suppose it os the only problem I have had with it . Depending on how much it costs to get it fixed, I'll let you all know if any mods happen
