I need to do something similar soon. Bought the UPol rattle cans and will probably touch up the bumper and repair the lacquer peel as well.

First time doing it, so that'll be a laugh.

Its absolutely awesome. Transformed the car. Just put a set of direzzas on too which have helped massively

Couldn't believe the amount of turn in and grip its go, carousel was an eye opening, more turn in more power, more turn more power. Grip grip grip

Didnt get a chance for video as we got here and they were trying to shut the gates to the car park, just torqued the wheels and snuck out ha ha

I have to repaint one wing, I tried to blend the new and old finishes and it’s not happening for love nor money! It’s always a PITA painting lol

Finally got round to putting a couple of bits for sale on the for sale section. Lol
Parcel shelf and a set of team heko deflectors for a mk1 if anyone’s interested.
Pop over to for sale section for more info.

Got 6 new tyres, tracking checked on both (mine fine, "new" one 8 out so got to go back in 100 miles) - turned around and went back to have wheel weights replaced somewhere they wouldn't rub on caliper. Topped up the PAS fluid again, got the door card off and stared in disbelief at the bolts holding the plate on just as it was time to leave, jammed up window with brand new lolly sticks and old air freshener. Checked fuse and wires on the non-functioning horn and decided to leave for MOT man next month. Swore all the way home at the indicators that still work when they feel like it.
Still to do - adjust gearbox cables in the 1.6, sort flasher unit in the 1.6, oil filter for the TDi, and one bulb each - when the weather cools down a bit.

Luckily the main part I need to sand back, prime and spray is inside the offside rear door, so if it doesn't match perfectly, it won't be too much of an annoyance. It looks like there's enough of a line there too that I'll be able to mask it pretty easily.

The rest is just peeling lacquer on the front and rear bumper and a few spots here and there, that I might even be able to correct with polish and the random orbital sander.

I sound much more confident than I should be though!

I'm assuming you were using rattle cans to do it? How did the finish turn out? Any runs or finishing issues? Right now I'm not that concerned with a perfect colour match (fifteen year old silver Leon? Good luck with that...) but just want it to look as clean as possible.

I managed to patch and blend a spot on my front bumper so i tried to repeat that success on the wings (both had small dents)

Even though i was using mixed 2k base coat and 2k clear, i couldnt get the new and old patches to blend, they glossed up perfect but you could see the difference in lacquers/base coats. Very disappointed but now i know its better to do the whole panel lol

I think your silver will be easier to blend as its light, this plat silver is very metallic and you can see the new vs old glitter

my golden rule is lots of water and 2500 grit then compound polish with a foam pad once clear has hardened, with 2k clear it comes up wicked.
