Had a day's annual leave from work yesterday that I forgot to mark on the calendar so used it to do this;

Overall I'm pleased with it but there are a few minor marks that'll need polishing out but I ran out of time.

Managed to break the dipstick tube which is a bummer, although it was a much quicker job than i'd anticipated.
Looks mint. Give us a guide!

Nothing to it really, more time consuming than difficult.

You'll need a 5 and 6mm Allen bit and a 10mm deep socket to get the intake mani off.

Then after removing from car and taking all hoses off, you want to use progressively finer grits of sandpaper, starting around 80 to get the pitting sanded back to smooth, then 120 to remove the scratches, then 320, etc. Then, when you are only left with fine scratches, buff GENTLY with a scotchbrite. Could leave it there but I opted to use some cutting paste (on a rag attached to my orbital sander as an improvised polisher) to get a smoother finish.

Before putting it back on the car I made sure it was washed out with degreaser and then washing up liquid, before flushing each tube for a few minutes to make sure no metal debris got into the engine.

There are some mild scratches left but unless you are really close and in the right light you can't see them. I didn't bother getting the bits down by the injectors to be smooth, would have taken too long and is barely seen anyway.

In true Haynes fashion, re-fitting is the reverse of removal.

May be worth replacing your intake mani and throttle body gaskets while you're there.
