what does your leon do that annoys you?

My Leon is 5-1/2years old now and is more or less free of niggles; I get the occassional rattle/buzz on some road surfaces; the cruise control is a bit slow to reduce speed, but otherwise I have no complaints.

I don't get the wet windows, but possibly because I thought of a great use for my garage; rather than fill it full of unused junk, I thought I would keep my car in it instead! :p

It used to annoy me that I had to double-click to unlock the passenger doors and boot, until I found the MFD option to open everything with one click.

Several little niggles with my pre-facelift FR were fixed by changing to my (facelift) Ecomotive CR - e.g. the useless CD holder being replaced by a cup holder, the intense "wall of red" from the dash if driving in the dark used to be distracting - you couldn't turn down the brightness enough - and of course the cheap cardboard battery cover.
When I first got my FR, it used to annoy me how I couldn't lock the car and leave my daughter in her baby seat while paying for fuel without her setting the alarm off - even if she was asleep, it seemed. Then I found the bit in the manual about clicking the lock button again to switch off the volumetric sensors... duh!
Oh, and the ugly plastic "12V" flap over the lighter socket annoyed me, so I bought the smokers kit to get a proper cigar lighter and the ashtray serves as a useful coin/token/USB-drive holder. :)

Overall, my current Leon is the best car I've had to date. There are niggles but there are a lot of things I would really miss if I were to change: the remote-foldable mirrors, disguised rear door handles and A-pillar windscreen wipers are three things that come to mind which you don't find on many other cars.

Most of my gripes have been listed already

- Misty windows
- Windows that don't clear when you put them down and up
- The lack of drainage on the roof when it's wet and you get a shower coming in the window
- The rattling seatbelt holder right next to my ear!
- Massive A pillars making it difficult to see on single track roads sometimes
- Poor visibility for parking, making it difficult to see the ends of the car
- When you can't open the bonnet when it's been raining unless you dry it, otherwise the engine bay gets soaked
- The underbonnet soundproofing going mouldy
- The climate control system is a lot fiddlier than what I was used to. Give me knobs instead of buttons, plus the dash would be better angled to the driver like the MK4 Ibiza.
- The left hand drive handbrake that makes you almost grab your passenger's thigh.
- The uneven rear tyre wear issue. Glad I've got new tyres now!
- How leaves and crap get attracted to the area around the wiper motor
- I do like the wipers in that position, but if it snows, you have to clear the entire screen, otherwise it just sweeps it all into a pile on your bonnet! Unless you park them in the down position of course. Then again, with normal wipers, I sometimes made the mistake of hitting the switch to clear the screen when the door was open and ending up with a car full of snow....

Hmm...most of them seem to be water or weather related!

Apart from those though, I love it. :) Wanted one from the moment I first saw one.

1. Start's first time each & every morning for work - bugger!
2. Get's me to work nicely warm or cool & comfortably - hard life commuting!
3. Gives me a reasonable business mileage return at an average 50mpg - making some cash!
4. Cruise control does what it's told & I can stretch my legs - no DVT.
5. Stops when I want it to.
6. Goes faster if I press the big pedal.
7. WHAT RATTLES? That's what a radio is for!
8. Makes me smile everytime I drive - that's annoying as people think I'm a loon LOL

2008 FR DSG here, no biggies but a few minor niggles:
  1. The air blower control having a mind of its own, if I set fan speed 2 I don't want it to change to 4 a minute later when I look away, or automatically turn on "auto" just because I chose the same fan speed that "auto" would have chosen. If I want auto I will press the auto button!
  2. If you put the DSG in manual mode it's really annoying when you choose about the same point to shift up manually as the car decides to shift up by itself, you then end up going up 2 gears with just one press on the button. The car should realise you pressed the upshift button within 0.5 sec of it doing it itself, and then treat it as only one up-shift.
  3. In some situations in DSG manual mode it would get confused about which gear to select and you'd end up crawling into a roundabout with absolutely no power for about a second. Either I've learned how to avoid it or the car has learnt, because it hasn't happened for ages now. You'd think even if it got confused it could still give you power in the previous gear until the new one was ready...?
  4. If there is no front passenger then the seat-belt flaps violently about and continuously hits the plastic pillar when the window is open above about 20 mph. I end up plugging in the passenger belt when I'm by myself, my girlfriend is like :wtf: when she gets in.
  5. Not possible to have the time and outdoor temperature displayed at the same time, is there a way to do this, I'm continually flicking between the two. Can you show the time on the radio at all?
OK that's all for now :D

A quirk in general about the DSG (or maybe I'm the quirk, you'll see what I mean :D )

When in manual mode I'd prefer the shift gate to be reversed (as it is in some Fords) - pull down to shift up and push up to shift down.

:wtf: :ban: :D

Shows them both on mine but I have the F/L model. It's the screen that displays the average fuel consumption and also shows temp, time, gear indicator, kph etc. Very handy as it's all in one place.

Sounds like he hasn't got the large mfd with bluetooth. On facelift cars the large mfd is standard even without bluetooth I think it should always have been.

For me it's the front window steaming up in the damp weather argh !

Keep air conditioning on, it dehumidifies the air. I have never had a problem with windows steaming up in the rain, even with passengers.

I have the small MFD and mine can show the time and temperature at the same time :)
