Are you sure that's all you damaged? Did you reconnect the main loom connector properly? Maybe as it broke it blew a fuse? I don't think that damaging 1 little light bulb would disable all the electrics in the door.

Sorry for adding this but the thread is so big and some links are out of date. Anyway I am planning to do this on my mk2 Leon soon and was wondering what sealant strips people are using. I do not want to use silicone as its too messy and horrible to work with. Also has anyone actually done a guide for this fix with photos from a mk2 and not mk1?

Changed the seal on my leaky drivers side rear door. Worked a treat! no more leaks. going to do the rest when weather picks up.

Thought i had sealed the door. Went to it today, full of water again. Any ideas why? Not been done correctly? Getting in from somewhere else?

Anyone know the size of the bolts that hold the carrier plate in place? As one broke and needs replacing, had to drill old one out.

I know its a 10mm head, just need the size of the actual bolt.

Just wanted to post a "thank you" to the contributors of this thread. I had the same issue with my 2005 Leon where the water was coming in at the driver's door. I ordered the parts needed and with the help of my lovely assistant (my daughter), we managed to get all 4 doors sorted in about 3 hours.

It's not rained up here in sunny Scotland since the weekend, so obviously can't tell yet whether we're all good, but based on the perished rubber I removed from the existing seals, it really can't be any worse than it was!

A special note of thanks to DubSteve68 for his excellent write-up with pictures :)

I also painted a rectangle of hammerite on the floor where driving with no mates or carpets had worn through the paint ;)

Hi,

I have this issue for 4 years and no success with it, water still leaking.
Water comes from joining iron sheet under the pedals. It comes inside only when it rains and the car is parked so, I know from where is getting inside but don't know from outside.

I have removed the wipers and clean that area and paint it but no success.

Please please help.

Thanks,
Dragos

Are you 100% certain it isn't

1 the pollen filter
2 the electrical box under the scuttle
3 the door carriers
4 I have know the bulkhead sealant to contains small holes, maybe investigate that?

Hi,

thanks for reply but:

1 the pollen filter
I cleaned and applied primer on all surface, from the pollen filter till the electrical box under the scuttle

2 the electrical box under the scuttle
The iron sheet is slightly up and sealed(seal is ok). If it was it from there the water will drop directly on my pedals but anyway

3 the door carriers
Door seal was change and no water is leaking from there

4 I have know the bulkhead sealant to contains small holes, maybe investigate that?
Those small holes are free and not sucked with dirt

If I put a water hose in right side of the windshield the water will reach inside the car in 1 minute.
I have this issue since I bought the car and the windshield was also changed once so I don't think this will be the fault.
I assume that the water leaks somewhere inside the door pillar.

Rear passenger footwell sodden!

Oddly enough, the rear foot well on the passenger side is absolutely soaking, all other foot wells are bone dry, I haven't a Scooby where the water is coming in, but it is sure making the inside of the car fog up nicely, and with the added damp and musky odour inside the car! Any ideas where the leak is, is the culprit the rear door seal or does anyone know of a usual suspect for this leak? Thanks for any ideas

Safe to report that after using this guide and replies from this thread my car is no leak free. *touches wood* Fingers crossed it remains that way.
Anyone thinking they can't do it. Honestly the guide covers it all!! Get it done!!

More than likely the passenger front door. My driver side rear footwell was soaked and the front door seal was to blame.

Thanks very much for the quick replies! That would make sense actually thinking about it, the passenger side front door has the rubber trim that keeps popping off and getting caught in the door when it's closed on occasions. I will have a gander at the guide again, and have a go. Thanks again.
