Hi guys,

I've got a 13 plate Leon FR. Absolutely love the car but it didn't have the tech pack fitted so I'm on standard radio and no sat nav.

I've seen some head units for sale on ebay for around £250-£300. Does anyone know if it's a case of doing a straight swap between what I've currently got and the DAB/Sat Nav unit that I want to install or is it more complicated than that?

Also, I've got a 2 year used warranty from the main dealer. Will I invalidate that by changing the unit?

Any advice much appreciated.

I'm in the same situation and have been looking a lot into this.

I haven't looked at installing the new factory unit much, by the seems of it the cost would far outweigh the performance - haven't seen them on eBay, I would be very interested to hear if this works.

Many people seem to have installed 3rd party android units which I think is what I will end up going for. Automatic map updates and the option to install any 3rd party ones you want.

I'm interested in this too, I'm just about to buy a 63-plate SE without the Tech Pack. From my reading online, you'd need to get the component protection removed from any of the new MIB systems if you want to fit it to a different car from the one it was fitted to in the factory. Regarding aftermarket systems, you'd lose the 'Car' menu, with all that setup stuff, but I'm not sure how much of that can also be done through the dash cluster like it was on older cars.

For satnav, there's also this from Kenwood. I don't know if it would work with the Leon though, it's not listed, but it works with VWs and Skodas with the new MIB systems. However, it mentions 'Composition Media', which I think is the VW system that correlates to the 'Media System Plus' in the Leon, with the larger screen. The standard one in the Leon I think is equivalent to the 'Composition Colour', which is in the base model Polos. And while the link says that the facelift Polos are included, it doesn't mention Composition Colour anywhere.

It might well be worth a look though.

Because I'm a newbie here I need to make the link a bit awkward, as I've not done 15 posts yet.

In terms of what you lose through the car menu, I can't see any way of doing this through another menu on the dash. The HUD just seems to be reference only.

From looking through this menu there isn't much I would personally miss, just options on foot well lighting, and other similar settings which to me are very much set and leave alone. you do get a bit of extra information on warning lights, but this can be found by other methods anyway.

For that Kenwood one, I've looked at similar in the past where you just double-press the media button and it swaps to the sat nav, but for the price (I think it was around £250 when I looked before) I have never gone for it, knowing that I can get a very decent aftermarket stereo with all the bells and whistles for cheaper. The only thing that has put me off is that I haven't seen anyone else completely replace theirs.
